Re: Dual stage evaporative cooling water setup
I run the returns from the reflux and the condenser shotguns through a 3 tons AC evaporator out of an old air handler. The output from the evaporator is dumping into a pail where the 2 small 12v pumps are pumping up the cooler water to the reflux and condenser.

Re: Air Still Pro Reflux With Air for Cooling ? What you think
While I don't like deceiving sales tactics, in my very own opinion, thd classic air-still is the perfect companion to my keg reflux distiller. Can't be easier than using an air-still to make batches of gin or whatever infused product you make out of already clean neutral spirits. That being said, i ...

Re: help on 2nd run making gin in Airstill
If you charge your Airstill with 1L of 40% ABV (diluted and clean neutral spirit): 1. Collect about 10-12mls as a head cut. This will clean out any residual gunk in the pipes, as well as any heavy botanical oils 2. Collect about 400mls. Start tasting the output before this. The 400mls will be aroun...

Re: Using An Air Still
I use one to make Odin's easy gin.
I just added a diode in series with the element to slow it down to 375w
Works fine for my own needs when doing very small batches.
Strip your wine batch once then do a spirit run splitting the distillate in small 100ml glass jars.

So let's make some gin and let's not make it complicated. Thank you Odin for this recipe. I made the "no maceration" version but waited 5 weeks to taste the result. And it was worth the wait ! Very Easy to do and very good Gin for sipping on ice. I made the neutral with rice fermented wit...

Even if not completely tight, the leak might not be enough to keep the water pressure from building up.shadylane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 10:55 am
That's what I was thinking also.
But it looks like the lid can no longer be sealed water tight.

Safest way to do it. No air pressure or steam. Only liquid.ThomasBrewer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 9:24 am There's no need to heat it or pressurize with air or steam. If you have a connection to city water, that will be sufficient to hydroform it.
Put the pressure from your garden hose to it and it will come back to original form.

Sorry, i completely forgot common sense was not widespread through population. /s That being said, I would certainly buy back this boiler for a few dollars and "hydroform" it back in place with water pressure because it is something you can do with round vessels. But hey, keyboards warrior...

Re: My still has imploded!!!! Digiboil 35L
Replace the silicone hose with a section of Corrugated Stainless steel gas line if you really need to redirect to product to a glass container placed a bit further away
Anyway, stop looking at the cause and just pressurise it back to its original shape.

Re: My still has imploded!!!! Digiboil 35L
Actually it could. He would be drawing a column of water (actually a water/alcohol solution) up the hose. It doesn't take much pressure to cause an implosion like that. If the solution was drawn 30 inches up the tube it would be 2.2 psi on all of the surface. Lot of surface, lot of pressure A round...

Re: My still has imploded!!!! Digiboil 35L
Clearly, OP have a ball valve on the output of the vapor path because no effing way an airlock caused by a hose standing in liquid would allow the vacuum to build up. As the vessel cools down, the vacuum would have pulled the spirit back in the vessel. I call it, OP have a valve somewhere that could...

Being who I am, I would load it with hot water, block the top vapor port and start the boiler to pressurise it back in place.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
My understanding is you use a short grain, not a long grain rice. There have been some posts on this in another thread, I don't have it to hand but search for yellow label Rice Flour works fine too. Sure you might get a bit more alcohol per kg of short grain rice but at what cost ? Nothing is black...

It looks like the result spirit is nice, but I've heard people from here saying that the taste is awful... So I do had the yellow label ready, but i'm hesitant... The fermented wine tasted good but because I am refluxing the sh!t out of it, the taste is very neutral after a single distillation thro...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
If you are distilling the resulting wine, you might not need to steam the rice. It is your call ;-) In my previous batch, the long grain white rice from the supermarket was digested properly by the enzimes in the Angel yeast. I only throw boiling water on top of the rice, mix then wait for the tempe...

Started a batch of 16kg of white rice in a 50L stock pot. Covered the rice with boiling water than pitched 100g of yellow label yeast when the temperature went down to 32 celcius. It is converting the rice starch and fermenting like crazy. I also have a 22 lb batch of rice flour in another 10 gallon...

Re: Hello from Quebec, Canada
Cheapest is a used 50 L beer keg from kijiji with a water heater element installed on it. Then the stainless steel fittings can be bought from Equinox in Boisbriand.
In the end it will be cheaper than the chinese pot still.
