What Arto posted is anise-seed. Star-anise is from a complete different plant.

I've made my first distilling steps with the very same set, minus the herb-basket. Cost about 120$, works like hell.
The boiling kettle can also be used as a fermentation basket, by just swapping two valvehandles.
