Re: Just Post a Pick of your Rig

I bought an airstill 2 months ago but quickly realized that it is too small to make anything meaningful and to make cuts that make sense. I found a person who builds and sells these - https://i.ibb.co/y8jtGTj/20210408-030032.jpg He is willing to accept my airstill plus money for one of these. The bo...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Ok, I get the basics now. My hydrometer is limited and weird, I wonder if it's because it's meant for all fruit mashes - https://i.ibb.co/3hFNjYr/Webp-net-resizeimage.jpg At first, I thought that in order for my starting gravity to be 1.09 it needs to sink so it is a bit higher than the number 10. N...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Adjusted Value:
1.029

That's a lot more since the recipe calls for 1.09

Should I split the mash in two buckets and add half of only water to both?

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

It's showing 1025 now, and it is calibrated to 20c. it was 1015 before I added the yeast, as seen in the pic.

Wash temp (just measured it) is 35C.

Noted on the pictures.

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Hi, I used the birdwatchers calculator to see the ammount needed for 30l of wash. 6.8kg sugar, 300g tomato paste, 1g lemon juice, 84g yeast. I don't have access to epsom sts. Still my sg turns out a bit high. I measured my water to be 30c and mixed sugar, paste and lemon juice slowly https://ibb.co/...

Re: Kiwi mash for my airstill

Thanks guys.
I do admit this was an impuls buy caused by kiwis being on sale.

I will regroup, get some tomato paste and try Birdwatchers for my first distillation. The rest of the kiwis can be a desert for now.

Thanks Duck for the advice on the airstill!

Re: Kiwi mash for my airstill

Thanks for the reply! I don't have the gravity meter.,. yet. I will make sure to buy one asap. I used a rule of thumb I read in here - https://www.storey.com/article/making-fruit-wine-how-much-sugar/#:~:text=But%20instead%20of%20a%20hydrometer,the%20sugar%20is%20completely%20fermented. Kiwi mash for my airstill

Hello again, I am looking for some guidance in my first ever fermentation attempt.. I chose something unusual - kiwi! Re: Novice question

Sorry, yes Docstiler is right, I dilluted a spirit to 30 percent and distilled it.
I have faints from that - and I want to add some 47 abv booze to that mixture and try to distill it again.

Novice question

I just finished distilling a 30 abv wash that's been macerated with herbs - wormwood, fennel and anise. I plopped it in my air still and it made a nice perfumed spirit. I kept collecting until the product started getting a bit weak to tase and smell, but it didn't smell rancid or anything like that ...

Re: Greetings from Serbia

That is most certainly the plan, and my old man has a lot of tools and is very much a tinkerer, so I plan on upgrading to an easy DIY solution as soon as I move my residence from this apartment to a house with a yard (it should happen fast, fingers crossed). For now this airstill is a tutorial of so...

Greetings from Serbia

Hello moonshiners! I come from Serbia, and I am new to the craft of distilling. Like I see many did before me I purchased an airstill as a birthday gift for myself a couple of days ago. I read it is a challenge, to say the least to make anything I would ferment myself in that little pot, and I likel...
