my 2¢ worth... YES on the thumper size upgrade! period. just like cayars & some of the others said... SW/BW. IMHO, anything else is a waste of time & mash. it's sacrificial, so why use anything else? key there is sacrificial, as others pointed out, meaning you toss it. ;-)

never had an issue w/ cloudiness of my wash, in terms of it's always cloudy (i can never see thru it), but my thumper might be helping to clear up my my product? i know many ppl swear by a clear(ish) wash, but never been an issue for me.

I've been thinking about Sweet Tator shine myself.
The plan was to first bake them at around 140'f for a long time.
