Ferment in your greenhouse/glasshouse/grow room. Plants love CO2.

Re: Hickory smoking in the jar
Rather than pressure I would do it with vacuum. If it does go to sh*t, it will implode rather than explode. But probably the likes of a computer fan on the output side, or a water/fluid syphon to create the vacuum. So no major forces involved. Wood will gassify at a certain point, and you'll want to...

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but drinking >60% abv is not something I'd call "unsafe"
..."unadvisable", "unwise", and "unappealing"...but not unsafe, beyond the usual caveats with alcohol injestion.

Ingest with care!

For added humour, find some methylene blue (pharmacy) and add that. ...shall we say, it carries the blue colour all the way through! Haven't done the flowers but did turn some water pink when drawing ghost chillies smoke/vapour through a water-bong arrangement. Can't imagine it would be too pleasant...

Re: Muck conversion?
What is the pH? Commercially, essence is created using muck and vinegar from the trash pit. OK, so there was no actual sugar/conversion, gravity reads same as stillage. Must have been the moulds giving off sweet smell. (Aerobic moulds, though?) Should maybe also have mentioned I roll my own yoghurt...

Re: All Feints Run
My feints get re-run, generally down to a neutral, or a good base for gin.
On feints runs, I tend to throw out more heads, and don't go deep into tails (finish at 40% abv or "no longer flammable")
But there will still be some heads and tails, that get re-feinted.

So I chucked a few generations of dunder into an open bucket, probably been there a few months now, It grew all kinds of lovely mould flotilla, but the thing is... it started smelling sweet again! As I type, I'm boiling it (I should have got an hydrometer reading first) And it'll be going in a ferme...

You can buy grain mill attachments for your k-beater. Bolt on to the lowspeed port at front. They're about $150 here so probably only $50 in the real world...

We have "kumara" here which are a native "sweet potato" (though not of the solanum species) By themselves they'll ferment out to a 3-4% beer. I did a "sunday roast" whiskey with corn and kumara and it ended up about 14% wash, where my calcs were only destined to yield 4...

this is one of several posts on HD that state for a vinegar cleaning run use 50% vinegar and 50% water. this is misleading as store bought vinegar is already 5% vinegar and 95% water. so the correct ratio for a cleaning run Well... yeah nah. Acetic acid is a constituent component of vinegar. I thin...

Re: Roger from Methven, Canterbury, New Zealand
kiaora from the top. 10.7 @40 from 20lt would have your wash at~21% which (is entirely doable from turbo but) will leave you will all kinds of off-flavour. I think the general consensus here is 16% tops, and most "tried and true" are 4-8% in the wash. Smashing for high ABV is false economy...
