Hey! There is some great triclamp ferule stuff to search for on aliexpress. teflon gaskets that fits well, and a bucket from "Dibosh". then all you need is a good induction plate (My goes down to 1000W without ever turning off, but up to 2000W and keeps power in that interval). The trick ...

Its like building lego, with off the shelf parts. Just a seed for an idea, there are endless amounts...

Re: used barrels
If i am putting the same product in every couple years, what is the difference than just leaving it for 12 years? I have always believed that a barrel can be used for many fills, relying on the permeability of oak beyond an understandably diminishing amount of goodies remaining in the wood. At some...

To put it in the vapour path make's it easy to see when the run is soon starting to produce. The temps are very unstable and rises in several steps during fores/ heads. I have just used a thermometer to take notes of the temp and taste the cut from the temps. Hearts is not completely, but more of a ...

I'm aiming for a spirit run this weekend! 10kg of Dark Muscovado per 60 Liters of water. Later strips I exchanged 2kg muscovado with 4kg of molasses. 2 teaspoons of fermoplus integrateur a tablespoon of lemonjuice a handfull of boiled and crushed eggshells for buffering. Bread yeast It's going into ...

Re: BadMo vs small all-wood oak barrels vs glass jars and staves
I'm thinking of trying out one of the 5L wood casks you see as they're cheap and easy to get hold of here in the UK. Why do you suppose they're cheap ? Do the research and buy from a trusted source. Years ago, my wife bought me a small barrel. She was so proud. One look and I knew I'd never fill it...

Re: Dalein panela / raw sugar rum recipe
I have done something similar, but with dark muscovado and on a 21l batch, around 3.2kg sugar instead of 5+. For around 9% wash. Trying to keep bad congeners at bay. Yarr. Have yet to make a spirit run, but any month now! :) Keep us updated :) What exactly is your muscovado sugar ? Is it like brown...

Its nice to know that you have a custom made "Rum Cellar" Chris.....I think I'll just stick to a few barrels in my shed......that seems to work for me. Its also interesting that you can "create time" From a chemists perspective it's something like this: To create a reaction you ...

And saw that he's also selling a 2 year bourbon with this "process". Anyone have any idea what it might be? I followed the link, read the interview, and then poked around his distillery's website. Nowhere, that I saw, does he describe the "technology." What's troubling is his ti...

Re: Hot Flavor
If ageing in a wooden barrel, the heads will air out quite quick.
If glass jar, try to open it once every day for some air exchange.
Is the hotness coming from the wood or the Likker?

Re: Blue Moon... whiskey???
Ok total derail here. Fruity IPAs should not exist. An IPA should be bitter as God intended. If you want a fruity beer then give it a different name instead of IPA, perhaps Satan's Fruity Taint (SFT for short) 😁 I get what you mean, but there are the "new england ipas" that taste like if ...

Re: Blue Moon... whiskey???
Nice one RD. You get the whole Boilermaker from a single mash  Interested to see how the remnants of any hops residuals left behind affect the likker. Cheers, jonny Shouldn’t be an issue as the grains come out before the hops go in. Only problem would be if you didn’t clean the boiler prop...

Re: I should have listened, or: Fixing what was bound to break
Got me thinking of the figure of speech, then further to the lyrics of the song "when good dogs do bad things"
I could swing a cat in this crowded room, without even hit a soul.
Great, now I must listen to that again!

I've got to believe you guys got a bad batch... it's the only thing that makes sense. I scoured ADI and that's what most of them use for rum. Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for a slow start. Re: Hi from Sweden
The labmaster is a good starter and can be run as a potstill if you just bypass the lower cooling parts. It's flaw lies in a soldered tiny product condenser which makes stripping runs slow. But it surely can produce a fine spirit with patience! :) Yeah, I've done a few stripping runs and one attemp...

The average is 72% which is very good!!! An average of 72% from an 18% wash using a packed column is very good ? It's a compact potstill? :) Vlad, if it gives you what you want it's great! Try to do a double still with that, still til you are at 30% abv, then still again. The hearts would surely be...

Re: Headache while distilling?
For science....
Try to have a beer or two before starting the stillin. If sensetive to methanol, the ethanol would already be in your bloodstream and you'd have a buffer against it.
In case you distill completely sober...
