Re: Looking for PID wiring diagram

Pids work great. Just have to set them up correctly. Run the pid in manual mode, and you're just fine. Wire the pid according to it's instructions. I always used Watlow PIDs. I know there are a ton of posts on it from way back. Keep looking, I'm sure there still here. http://homedistiller.org/forum/...

Re: (PSR-25) does this look right?

The diagram that blue thunder has posted is not 2 PSR25s. The top component is a filter. It is recommended by United automation, but not needed to function correctly. I have built many of the PSR25 builds, and have never used it, and have never had a problem. I have never used more than 1 module on...

Re: PID success, maybe

So you're talking about controlling coolant temp? There are more variables to that then just power input. Still the point to be made is, you cant just turn your power full on and off without surging. You want to be able to ramp up your power based on coolant temp? Whats controlling coolant flow? And...

Re: PID success, maybe

I don't think you understand the math. 10kw for 30 seconds is the same as 5kw for 60 seconds, right? Also, I'm not talking about controlling the temperature of the boiling liquid. I'm talking about controlling temperature of the condenser by adjusting heat input. It worked to the point where, despi...

Re: PID success, maybe

If you are in manual mode and you set the controller at 50% and lets say you are running 10k watts, your output will be 5kw of power to your element. If you just bump the set point up 1deg like you are thinking, the controller is going to throw 10kw at your element until you reach the set point. You...

To call it bourbon, it has to be aged for 2 years. Don't matter what it tastes like, it could be great in days, but all you can call it is whiskey.

Re: Temp Control - you're doing it wrong.

This just saved me a lot of time! Ok so if you wanted to control temp it would be primarily for heat up and the temp to watch would be the mash and not the column. This would allow the mash to heat up quickly but slow down right before you start coming in to boiling temp range. The slower to the bo...

Do yourself a favor. Wire one element to the controller, and plug the other one directly in. Unplug the one when you get to temp and run off the other. Much simpler.

Re: I have a PID, is it good for anything?

Trying to use a PID, or to use one in any way but in manual mode, is just an effort in trying to over-complicate a simple process... I honestly don't understand why people do that, and especially those who don't know how... It's maddening to be quite honest... We talk and we talk and we talk and no...

Aquarium heaters work good. Simple, and easy. I set one up in an old frige for insulation. Kept it warm in 0F temps.

Re: I have a PID, is it good for anything?

There are plenty of reasons. if you read the responses, itwas stated that it is possible if you know what the hell you're doing. You don't know much about stilling, or pids. You said so your self. Why don't you get familiar with one of the two before tieing them together. How do you program a comput...

If it can run in manual mode, you want to see what kind of duty cycle it has. Some of them can be programmed for fast/slow duty cycle, with a variable/fixed time base.

Re: Question: 1 or 2 valves on a Nixon/Stone

1 valve for output. Then have your reflux tube above that, so it refluxes everything that isn't collected. The smaller " reservoir" the better. Won't smear cuts that way.
