Re: SBB's All Molasses Rum Recipe
My knee jerk reaction is it isn’t done yet. The fermenter is likely too cold as it is way below the effective range of your yeast (20-32C is what I found, but didn’t look too hard). Too low of a temp means your yeast will slow down or even stop its activity. It doesn’t kill them, so usually warming...

Re: SBB's All Molasses Rum Recipe
I get that specific gravity readings are generally not great for an all molasses wash. However, I think mine has finished fermenting after 5 days. Starting gravity was 1.080 and is now 1.052. I decided to take my refractometer down to the garage and apparently, my wash is at 33% ABV. Surely this ca...

Re: First gen UJSSM taste
Thanks for all the tips. I ran generation 2 yesterday on a stripping run and have saved the low wines to go in with the collection of generation 3. You lot are the best

Re: First gen UJSSM taste
So if I extract for example 3 liters tomorrow in my stripping run, do I empty my pot of wash, put in my distillate and top up with water so that the pot is at least 40% full?
I thought I'd done so much research but I'm confused.

Re: First gen UJSSM taste
Well first thought is you didn’t run this first one long enough. There was a lot left in the boiler if you stopped at 32%. With 25L at 8% (using for round numbers) there was 2L of 100% in the wash, so if you collected to 40% net, that would be ~5L. Sounds like you pulled 2.3L so you left almost hal...

Re: First gen UJSSM taste
I've finally ran my first UJSSM (Gen 1). I did not do a stripping run and I did not use a thumper. My yield from 25 litres was: 500ml @ 49% ABV 500ml @ 42% ABV 500ml @ 37% ABV 500ml @ 32% ABV First generation wasn’t great, the corn flavors build over time as you start sour mashing into gen 3 or so....
