Re: Simple Column Build
I’ve been running my 2”CCVM still for about a year it is very simple to operate, but if I were to start a again I’d make it 3” atleast with two kids its not always easy to spend the day watching the still.

Re: Mash problem with my all grain Whisky
Depending on what temp you store your grain at 148lb into 13 gal of water might of cooled it to much. Using a strike water calculator and assuming your grain is 68f it would be around 142f when mashing in. You could try and add more strike water next time and sparge less it would keep the water temp...

Re: Speed up stripping run
I have a Brewzilla with two 1500w elements and a regular 50L keg that I use with gas both with a 2” opening. The condenser is 18” 2” shotgun.

Speed up stripping run
My current boiler is 50l with a 2” tri clamp opening if I were to get an adapter to go to a 2” to 3” or 4”. Would it speed up my stripping runs even if the top is only 2”.

Re: Stilling in a BrewZilla 35l?
Yes it’s a 110v I run the Brewzilla and 1500w element on two 15a circuits. The heating element sits in the dead space so I can still use the grain basket for making beer. I use it more for the ability to run a SCR.

Re: Stilling in a BrewZilla 35l?
I use my Brewzilla for distilling, I added another 1500w water heater element on the side. I keep the 500w Brewzilla element on and control the 1500w with a SCR. Heat up times are also a lot faster with 3000w total power.

European Oak barrel
I found a cheap new 5L European Oak barrel I’m looking to age whiskey, from what I’ve read European Oak has a harsher flavour. What would be a good whiskey to age in it?

Re: Recirculating mash question
I added two 1650w elements, one with connected to an ink bird PID on my 20gal kettle. Not real expensive and circulate through the whirl pool and top for even mash temps.

Re: Recirculating mash question
I recirculate when making a beer for a more even mash temperature, I’m sure how important it is when making a whiskey.

Re: First Whiskey
It’s already smelling pretty good.
I have another mash on the go now:
40lb - 2row
2.5lb - Oats
1lb - crystal 60
Going to use bakers yeast again.

Hello everyone
Hello everyone, recently put together a modular CCVM still, I plan on using it both as a pot still and reflux I’ve done a few stripping runs and two neutral spirt runs. Still have lots to learn.
