thank you for posting that i was plan on building one today but well have to see I too originally planned on making an amazing still, but after learning that it isn't much harder to make a potstill I decided on that - then decided it wasn't much harder to make an internal reflux still over a potsti...

copper is out of the question, it's price is absolutely ridiculous - there is really no justification for it, I don't care how much china's demand is up. $50 for a2x2x2 Tee is retarded. im gonna use stainless steel (literally pennies compared to copper). the only thing I worry about with using a tal...

Grain Alcohol Illegal
probably a dumb question but why is grain alcohol illegal in some states, namely my state - California ? I don't even think you can get Bacardi 151 here.

sweet.... I bought this really nice SS stock pot at macy's yesterday, was normally $80 but they had it for $19.99 - I kinda feel bad using it for a boiler cause it's so nice. with the reflux still I understand that you need to use a TEE so that you can use a cap on top for easy removal of packing, m...

I see, I do find that a lot of folks use like 5 feet for a column, what would you recommend for a small boiler like 16qts? if I'm using a thinner column would it have to be longer to make up for the lack of thickness? still reading the search... so much info edit: the bokabob reflux column is 24&quo...

Internal Reflux Plan
after reading that an internal reflux will yield a significantly higher proof distilate than a pot still, and deciding that it really isn't much harder than making a pot still - I am planning to go this route. I understand the concept of the internal reflux, the cooling water goes through the reflux...

copperman - what the store? it's been murder to find something like a stainless container WITH a lid like that, you can always add compression catches and a gasket... finding the container and lid is the hardest part. edit: factory 2 u or whatever it's called, has 20 quart stainless stock pots with ...

.... higher than 173 = water and no more alc. Can I have your dunder? - Higher than 212 = water and no more ethanol. ? not sure what a dunder is. I was saying that alcohol boils off at 173F, so since I don't know how to tell when you have gotten all the alcohol out of the boiler I will just have to...

will avoid the plastic.... but may use it to make a jacket out of pvc, not sure... still wondering if the condensation caused by the cold water going through the coil will dilute the product when it condenses in the condensor if I choose to put the coil inside.... now I am thinking of a way to run a...

good tip on the flange, thanks.... might have to go with a thicker/squishier type gasket in case it dostorts to avoid any heat/vapor loss... But why not put the coil (regardless of what it is made of) INSIDE the column? then you'd eliminate one degree of separation, and greatly improve heat transfer...

wouldn't be easier to buil a Liebig condensor? from the plans i've seen I don't really understand them, I get the idea but the way it's put together is confusing with the copper pipes.... besides copper tubing is insane right now, cheapest I can find online is $36 a foot Maybe home depot sells it, ...

Using Plastic tube won't work very well because of the insulating properties of the plastic i'm talking about the thin-walled flimsy clear type you can find at home depot... with ice water it would still be an issue? The Heating element needs to be constantly on, not on/off/on/off like a cooktop el...
