My mom used to make lily white lard that was used in an Easter cheese bread. The crackling went into the dough and so did a whole bunch of cubed salami and white pepper. That happened to me, except with a botched rum. I saw the fermentation through, hard as it was, and even distilled the nasty brew. My overall assessment is - puke in, puke out. Not worth all the time and effort. At least it wasn't in this case.
