Re: Aquarium heater?

I've used them in the past and still do-- the temperature gauge is flexible and you can adjust to what ever temp you need. To keep things moving I always give it a good stir.... usually done in 4-5 days... take them out of the fermenter prior to mixing, as they are fragile...

Re: dropping my numbers

I've put the wash through a strainer/siv so there aren't any solids to deal with. I'll re-wrap it and put a heat light over top of it.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?

About 2 weeks ago I found a bag of grains in my cellar labelled "aromatics".... it was about 1.5 kilo's... thought about it adding it to a sugar wash and seeing what it makes. Started at about 1.060.... Bubbled for a bit and dropped. It's now at 1.000 and smells nice.... Don't know what it'll taste ...

vitamin B question

Is there any difference in the type of Vitamin B you use? What I mean is that there is B+, B100, B12, B2, B1, B3 and the list goes on...

I want to try a yeast bomb next round, and want to make it with the correct vitamin B.... if it applies....lol....

dropping my numbers

Hey guys and gals, my numbers started off with a 1.060 on a "crushed apple" sugar wash... I did the usual pitching of yeast and waited for the ferment. It bubbled a bit, and I kept an eye on it. Over that course of a week, it's gone down to 1.020.... Am I asking too much to try and get it down even ...

My uncle had one that "clicked" down with pressure as you turned it...I'll have to find some photos... and only cigars my frie...

I'm in the same boat...lots of grapes that are not good for wine. They are Concord grapes... The vines are 45+ years old and produce year after year. I've crushed and pressed this years harvest and pulled off about 15-17 gallons of grape juice from about 230lbs of grapes. I've never added sugar or y...

Good day to everyone.... crushed my grapes 2 weekends ago... all went good... let it sit for almost a week and siphoned off about 10 gallons leaving the skins and twigs and seeds in the primary fermenter. Put some yeast over the siphoned juice and it took off...yeah! Crushed remainder this past Sund...

Re: Aquarium heaters - yeast stress with direct wash contact?

Don't know if this fits into this thread, but I'll throw my two bits in.... I've done the aquarium heater in a 5 gallon pail as a heater... it was OK... I did it that way quite a few times. Last week's wash was a sugar wash, and I did the following. Inverted a 2.5 gallon pail, cut a hole in the bott...

Re: Boiling yeast

Deplorable: so boiling the yeast, to the point of boiling it (till it dies??) in order to feed the next fresh yeast, correct? Why not just add Nutrient or ??
Sorry...still a bit confused.

Boiling yeast

I've been seeing more comments/recipes talking about boiling the yeast... I've never done it, don't know too much if anything about it... Does boiling it mean rehydrating it in a small bit of warm water? Does it make a difference in the recipe? When I've pitched my yeast, I usually just let it warm ...

Anyone ever try using one of those tea balls that would hold loose tea leaves? I've made it using that several years ago in a 2 inch column and it worked out great.

Have you tried Samiakki Koskenkorva?? it's a bitter black licorice sipping drink from Finland. Really easy to make. I made it several years ago.... If you don't like salty black "old fashion" licorice, don't make it.
