Re: Green Walnut Liquor
I made this Nocino in the early summer with some neutral that I had in the cellar from a few years ago. My son's friends dad has a huge tree and they were ready for the picking... I've got an old Italian recipe book stays its have to collect them when they are still green and soft. Traditionally, th...

Re: Pot's Grape wash
I've been running Grape washes for several years... makes for a cheap grappa so to speak. I have 4 vines that are at the end of the yard that are about 40 years old, and prolific providers of grapes every year. They are white Concord grapes... "Uva Americana"... my dad used to say....I've mentioned ...

Re: Odin's Easy Gin
Quick informational question re gin ingredients-- I'm planning on doing a Gin- but looking over the threads I can't find what I'm looking for, are the ingredients crushed or kept whole if they are put in a gin basket.... I'm thinking you'd get more flavor with crushed, but I don't know, thus I ask.....

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
After close to 2 years of not distilling, I set up the "old lady" and did a vinegar wash to clean it out and check for leakage. 100% clean and no leakage. Cleaned her out, and started with about 6 gallons of old fermented grape juice and ran it hard and fast! (a cheap version of grappa without doing...

Getting back to the Kousa Dogwood fruit... the city planted 2 of these trees on the boulevard outside my house about 20 years ago... I knew they were edible via an old lady who walked by everyday with her dog...with age come knowledge lol... I always thought they had a "blah" taste and weren't worth...

Hey there gang... It's been a long time since dropping any information or touching base with you lot. Work schedule hasn't allowed me to do much in terms of distilling, as did the horrible winter we had. No fun freezing your butt watching your pot boil. Got to build me a vented shed of some sort! I'...

portable induction stove
Hey there everyone... been awhile since I've posted anything...so here we go: Has anyone used a portable induction stove as a heat source? Local hardware store had some on sale and I was wondering if it would be able to heat up a 5 gal or even a 10 gal beer keg? The diameter across the top doesn't s...

Re: Frustrated- low% on final product
just to clarify... I'm not asking anyone to read my mind -- this is almost getting out of hand. What I meant by bubbles, is that the bubbling of the fermentation has stopped. Maybe not all of the sugar has fermented, true... but for the last two batches, I've let it sit for over two weeks. I've heat...

Pikey.... I don't know what's wrong...I've been doing the same thing over and over...and in the past....positive results....that's why I asked the forum.
Shadylane... no more bubbles happening..thus the ferment is done...that's how I usually gage it....

Re: Frustrated- low% on final product
Hey there, so on the hydrometer, it is a PROOF and TRALLES... I believe its the correct one...been using this for as long as I've been distilling. I do the reading shortly after it comes out of the Liebig...fresh, so to speak. On average, 8lbs sugar for 5gal batch. and No, I didn't measure the "pre-...

Frustrated- low% on final product
Ok, so, I've now completed 3 different runs,,, 2 birdwatchers and 1 COB... and all three have had low % in the outflow. What I mean is that I measure the % and it only starts at just above 40%, and then goes lower as per usual. These are all 5 gallon batches, all with baking yeast and 1/2 can of tom...

I'd try it.... I found some stuff my dad had hidden away and tried it...wickedly potent! I could only imagine that it was a gin of some sort, as the juniper berries are still intact in the bottom of the bottle.
