Re: Steam heating for a copper pot still?
I ferment mostly fruit, and am partial to grappa style clear brandies, but I generally take the time to settle and rack off. Its not often that I actually distill thick washes. Re: Anyone still struggling with...
My sences are a bit dull, so I still use the small jar method. I know about where my cut will be, so I use 1/2 pint jars to collect late heads and early hearts. Then again for late hearts and early tails. Let them air out for a day, then retest, starting from the middle and working out. Yup, that's...

Anyone still struggling with...
...making the distinction between foreshots and heads, and more importantly heads/hearts. And that's with 4 years of practice under my belt. So I cheat and just pitch the first 150 to 200ml depending on if it's a wash, pomace, or second run. A typical run is 5.5 - 6.5 gallons of wash in a 10 gallon ...

Re: Grappa still
Sorry to hear about the villa and distillery ES. The information has been most helpful. I was in fact thinking of opening a small distillery, but that project has been put on hold for now. The bain marie looks like the best bet, the double boiler should work well with pomace and fruit washes. I'm le...

Re: Grappa still
Is there a link to the Poli grappa stills? Also, if you do a search there's some good threads on grappa making.. I remember a really good one with Eurostiller, the Doctor. I think that's his handle.
