Re: New penny pot still
Looking Good! People run all stainless with just a few copper scrubbies in their column and say it works fine. Since you are going to have both copper and stainless, I think it would be instructive to make one big wash to split into two runs, one with the coppers head and the other with stainless an...

She is beautiful to behold! What is the capacity of your boiler? A stainless "cap" will work fine. You will need to keep some copper in the vapors trail to tie up the sulfer compounds that don't taste or smell so good in your product. Must be tuff to work in that tiny shop you have there....

Thanks much! TDS. Totally fascinating! You are pushing our knowledge frontier forward. Red wine from white rice, amazing! This type of post is why I continue spending so much time studying and taking notes here and on several other forums. Your "nugget" is a keeper. We are in your debt. Ju...

Re: Snuffy Smith has died.
Forty five years ago there was a great chance that I could kill myself and many others when I turn 16 and was finally of age to legally drive my Dad's 66 Chevy pickup on the public highways. My state in their "wisdom" said "Nay!, not until you have the studied this book and passed a w...

Not legal in W(BG*)V yet! Some friendly advice from an Old Timer: stay small, leave NO paper trail, don't sell and don't tell! Don't do stupid SHI.....er STUFF that will bring officers to your door. If you are still a "teenage at heart", just can't stop doing stupid stuff every now and the...

Re: Resveratrol to keep your yeast in shape
If Wikipedia is correct, the roots of a nasty invasive weed that seem to been taking over much of the US's Mid-Atlantic States appears to be the primary commercial source of resveratrol. Image search Japanese knot weed: stems look rather like bamboo, big leaves, grows 8-10' tall, dies to the ground ...

Some of the first shine I ever tasted 35 or maybe 40 years ago tasted much more like rocket fuel than anything I wanted to bring near my mouth again. Maybe something like Tim and Tickle would come up with. That may be why I had no interest in shine for the next the next 30 or so years ......that is ...

Re: FOA still head flow
A post in a distilling forum in Sweden posted 3 or so years ago said FOA is an acronym for "Defense Research Establishment". They refered to the still as "Otto" and said it was origonal designed by the Swedish Military to make rocket fuel in the field. The post may have been bogu...

Re: A moment of silence please..............
I have been using bottle traps like SC's, but I bait mine with a couple of inchs of apple cider vinegar and one drop of dish wash detergent. The detergent breaks the surface tension and so the little drunkards drown right away. One trap will do away with hundreds of the little buggers in a day of tw...

Re: My first Slivovitz....questions
There are dozens of youtube videos on making slivovitz, rakija, palenka, etc, very interesting but all done in native languages....most of their stills are wood fired and have a built in crank hand with gears to drive a stirrer. Many remove the pits before fermenting. A sand or water bath may be the...
