Re: Column take off size
No Im not looking for maximum efficiency, but in another thread I was told that a 2" column would be pretty slow for a full boiler charge. Thanks for the advice. Seems the adapter will work. Worse case scenario.... at some point I change the 2" take off on the boiler to a larger one, and u...

Column take off size
Hello I have a 20 gallon boiler, 5500watt element, with a 2" TC fitting on top for the take off. I have used until now as a pot still and have great success. My question.... As I choose a reflux column.... am I limited by the 2" TC for size? Can I go larger.... perhaps a 3-4" column.....

Re: Pot Still Vodka- 5x distillation, positive experience
I do have a question for those who run a reflux column. Id like to know the time difference required, compared to a 2" reflux still... I understand its varies a great deal depending on design. Assume the 1st distillation is completed in the stripping runs. Lets assume we start with 60l of low w...

Re: Pot Still Vodka- 5x distillation, positive experience
With this 5x distillation, ultimately, water is the best filter. By the time I get to the 4th and 5th distillation, the boiler charge that is left is basically clear and odourless. The first few runs, when you dump out the almost boiling spent kettle charge, it stinks, and burns your nose a lot. By ...

All Grain, UJSSM combo
Hi Guys, Have searched, but haven't found what Im looking for. Ive made a lot of Rum and Vodka, and some 100% barley whiskey. Im an All Grain Beer brewer, and have a 20gallon Mashtun. For beer, it is super easy to mash, and vorloff, and ferment a clear beer off the grain. I want to do a large batch ...

Re: Converting beer kettle
Hey Guys, I missed this thread earlier... But I have successfully been using a Spike Brew Kettle converted to a pot still successfully for close to a year, and countless batches. I have a 3 vessel 20 gallon Spike brewery that I primary do all grain beer. I have electric elements in the kettles and h...

Re: Internal Element Scorching Botanicals
and here's another tip that assist in stripping.. once the fermenting is finished, adjust the Ph to a 4 - 4.2 range.. it helps to reduce foaming during stripping along with a heat break at the first drop for 5 min..... I had never though to adjust ph after fermentation is done... That is very intres...

Re: Internal Element Scorching Botanicals
Ive never had a scorched batch, but one time doing an all grain beer I had a dark brown spot on the element after... But I was running it hard cuz I was running out of time. For most of my washes I can get them to clear pretty quick. I ferment in a 6 x 6 insulated room, that I have cooling and heati...

Re: Pot Still Vodka- 5x distillation, positive experience
Hey Guys, Since I started this thread back in May, just this week I again attempted the 5 time pot still distillation.... with similar if not better results. Once again, I started with TFFV, approximately 180l of wash at that went from 1.060 to .994 in 4.5 days... cold crashed and stripped in 3 batc...

Internal Element Scorching Botanicals
Hello Everyone, I searched for a definitive answer before I ran my last Gin, as to whether the botanicals will scorch on the internal element. Some said it would definitely scorch, others said it would be fine. Id like to share a picture of my results. I have a 20 gallon boiler, with a 5500 watt wav...

Pot Still Vodka- 5x distillation, positive experience
Hello Folks, I’ve been experimenting with pot still Vodka/ neutral for the last couple months, and thought I would share. I primarily distill Rum, and after 8 months of exclusive Rum development, I began with Vodka. A pot still is far from ideal for making a vodka/ neutral, but it’s what I have. As ...

Hello from Newfoundland
Hey. I really enjoy this site. Been reading here for the last 2 years, and it’s my go to search for any info. Been doing all grain beer for 4 years, starting on propane, and now I just finished building a 50amp electric brewery with 20 gallon custom kettles. My set up for distillation is a 20 gallon...
