Re: Run cloudy or clear for AG whiskey wash?
You are worried about off flavours on a cloudy wash, are you doing a strip run and then a spirit run?

Re: New Column Set Up!
I stand to be corrected - but would that bottom section with the bubblers and under the deflag give at least some reflux? The top section is maybe that high to work the jars bench level, This is what I was thinking. Also packing the column should add some as well. I down want to chop the column, so...

If the OP use the top column only as take-off no isues. I do not see any cooling in the top part, my gues it is just a tall pot still.

Put the VM on top of the LM. The initial theory was that you use LM for fores and heads and VM for hearts. If the VM is on top you do not contaminate your VM head.... that was the theory. Outside return of LM, look at RLM, reverse LM. It works but is just something more to fidle with. StillStiring r...

Re: First VM Run - Partially Flooded Column / Fluidized Bed?
For neutral, start with a clean ferment. run low wines that you stripped to 30% or higher. Dilute with water to 15 - 20%. I am not contesting a fluidized column but I think it is extreme to get there.

Re: Plates One and Done vs. Pot Strip Spirit
I run flutes. One has procap style caps other perfs, 5 plates each self buid old school. I only do maize meal with enzymes and or lately yellow lable. I do 2 strips and then a spirit run that I usually top off with beer. When I built my first flute I did one and done runs but once I invested the tim...

Re: Yummy's Semi-continuous stripper idea
Well as usual , the Devil is in the detail , and in this case its the cost . First off I looked at 6 manual valves , three for filling , three for drains . I wouldn’t want to go smaller than 3/4” , but in Staino , they add up and then one has to be operating valves all day. So I looked at Solenoid ...

Best yet, is when I stop at nearby friend's grain bins. She gets to rat hunt until worn out, while we drink beer and watch her work. Man, you sure could baby sit me once or twice a year. Ya want to chase critters or drink beer with the farm boys. I will take the beer with the boys, thank you....

Now I’ve been puzzling on a new recipe but i haven’t seen no one ask this question. But whiskey made from starchy grain with dominant corn which is a vegetable. Can other vegetables with loads of starches like plantains be added and be labeled as whiskey? Corn is a grass. Geoff Yes the stalk is but...

Thanks for all the input, especially to Normandie for his great idea. I'm going to discard my 3/8" CSST coil (difficult to get thru and attached to end cap) and make a double wound 1/4 OD copper coil, so it will be a bit before I run it again. Myself would stay with the 3/8. It packs salt bett...

In the '80s I was drafted... beer were always warm. A shot of brandy or 2 made for good drinking, or so I thought a the time. Today I rather have a cold beer without a shot.

A pot with an inverted lid. Inverted lid full of water create a water seal and reflux. A suitable vessel inside the pot to collect distlate from inverted lid. A copper pipe to direct distillate from vessel inside pot to a product condenser. BOBs your uncle. Or you have just recreated Mary the Jewess...

Myself run CCVM on my flutes. I doubt you will taste a difference between product from a CCVM and CM head. I am with Shady, not that I have any experience with CM. The flavour in a flute comes in a large part from the action on the plates. Yes, reflux does clean the product but the plates concentrat...

I was gonna to use 3/8" tubing for the cold finger. What do y'all think??? I'm not sure if it will matter what diameter you use for the cold finger so long as you get a clean, leak free join to it. From the pictures though mate, it looks like with the sight glass on top, that coil will not go ...
