Re: Gin basket B.O.E

The comment above where 60% in the pot is incorrect. You macerate at 60% for a period of time prior say 12 hours and then dilute to approx. 30% and then start distillation.

Re: Potential eBay find

Sorry but Food Grade Silicone is most certainly a safe and preferred product to use.

The problem in using PTFE is that it requires reasonably high heat to expand and seal properly.

Re: 2 inch sightglass dimension question

To make / use a longer sight glass is no problem. You will need to go to the local bolt and nut shop and purchase threaded rod to suit your longer sight glass and secondly go to your local lab glass supplier and they will stock your borosilicate glass. Make it as long as you want to.

Very interesting. I have a continuous still (100mm diameter packed column …. helical SS coil) that's designed and part built and no further.

Are you able to supply process flow drawings for better understanding of your set up.

Hi @mtranier I am being a bit stupid with that VAPOUR formula on the excel sheet. Can you more simply write the exact formula used.

I am not sure whether you are referring to EXP for E or an alternate / other value and whether x is the power value of the EXP.

Go to a stainless steel tube supplier and ask them for a DN50 triclover gasket. It appears that you have the clamp.

Re: Cut Points? Foreshots? Heads and Tails? Feints?

Elevation affect the azeo normal boiling point for ethanol so it is important. So too is the temperature at which point the cut is / was made for your particular recipe. If you are happy with the taste at that temperature well then that's the future setpoint going forward.

Re: Chinese stainless steel needle valves

Whichever you buy ensure that the correct needle valve is purchased. Because it says needle valve doesn't mean it's of the right type. Of course they will work, but some better than others. If you can and putting it in simple terms, get the one with the sharpest and longest point on the needle. With...

Build is complete but am redoing all my instrumentation for Ex (Atex) compliant. I am wetting my pants as to what money is required, e.g. the Ex rated level switch is 7 times pricier than my standard EH probe. Other instrumentation items also have massive Ex costs. I have 7 temperature transmitters,...

I also have an Edrometer though have not used it extensively as you have. Personally I would go back to food grade silicone tubing. I am of the belief that the PTFE will crack sooner than later with respect to continual movement and flexing. On a side note, how have you found the accuracy / reliabil...

My still with 5" (NW125) and packed 1.2m deep is shortly about to be brought into service. So actual performance in the near future can be better commented on then. But from a packing point of view and quantities required, you can work on 870,488 pieces per metre cubed. Costs are not that much ...
