I'm sorry for my response earlier. I realize that events and circumstances happen and no way meant to denigrate anyone. HDNB your maple syrup was awesome. Corrine your S3 was very well received. In all honesty, all the samples where very good. None was turned down, diffinty some were better than ot...

Re: To Filter or Not To? TITQ! What's Good Or NOT To Use?

I filter all my alcohol with the best filter there is A STILL :D :D and tight cuts  After that I run everything through a coffee filter in a stainless funnel. The coffee filter will remove char from barreling for my whiskey and bourbon. I have to coffee filter my rum several times due to al...

Re: passivation of stainless welds

When using lemon juice, go full strength. You can apply/wait/wipe and repeat until the surface is clean. Not the fastest way but it works for some. I'd rather use citric acid powder mixed with water in a concentrated solution. You can get it on Amazon for cheap and its wikipedia approved :sarcasm: ...

Re: First Rum run... 1/3 of the way done.

Have to agree with NZ about running it twice. Fast as you can strip, then a nice easy pace spirit run. We are running pot stills not boka's (no offense meant to the many boka users out there) running a pot real slow does not necessarily make a better product. Also I run my strips and spirits down to...

Re: Problem about make proper rum

Have you done the proper cleaning runs on this still yet? You didn't say anything about a reflux condenser ,not to be confused with the product condenser. It sounds like a pot still with a little packing, 60-70% depending on wash/mash is normal with strip then spirit run. Have you actually produced ...

Re: 50\50 Brown Sugar - fermenting (questions/input pls)

68f is way too low for bakers yeast. Shady is right you want to be closer to 80f. You have put your yeast to sleep. You can substitute dap for the fertilizer in the pugi's yeast bomb. Check out Pugi rum in the tried and true recipes. Your recipie is not that far off his. But his processes will help,...

This approach has not been maintained for 20? years and is not advised unless you are feeling very adventurous and have a desire to do some explaining to your insurance or rental car provider. Hey Windy, you can drive that land yacht the last few miles.... The route from the east is fine. No proble...

Re: Grain Bill Suggestion. Corn and One Other Grain

+1 on Wheat  I love a good wheated bourbon. Try malted red or white wheat they are both great and make a smooth drop. Keep playing around with different grains and after awhile it's like cooking pasta gravy (that's sauce btw) where you put a little of this and a little of that. Before you k...

On my stills I use a bunch of stainless unions. 1" and 2" I found at first they leaked a little bit. To solve that, I wiped I small amount of pipe dope on the inside edge. Works like a champ. This is also what I do on all my gas line unions and water line unions and some of those have pre...

106f is way too high. Your yeast are going to shit all over your drink which could cause the harshness not excluding the quality of your cuts or your recipe. It sounds like you need better temperature control then the heating blanket thermostat can offer. Try something like this. http://www.morebeer...

I have had that happen to me before on my rum when I used to use caramelized sugar for color and flavor. I have not seen that on Bourbon or whiskey's. Maybe a little too deep into tails.
