Re: Forum Rules

OK it doesn't force folks who are registering to read the rules, but it does provide a link. However, how many of us ever read all the minutiae when we register?

Forum Rules

I added a mod for forum rules. It placed a "Rules" link at the top of the forum. Check it out and let me know what you think.

It is set up so that new users who apply to the forum have to agree to abide by the rules.

YouTube videos

I installed an extension which purports to make YouTube videos work. It has added a "utube" button when you post.

But does it work?

Server software upgrade

I upgraded from FreeBSD 11.3 to FreeBSD 12.0 tonight.

Shouldn't be any changes here, but if you find any issues, please let me know.

Re: Thanks

Thanks to whomever Admin repaired my Log-In problem today. With all the other site issues, I'm sure you needed 1 more thing this morning. I felt so.... alone ... when "barred" from HD! I did it. Not sure why you were deactivated but I can only guess that PHPBB did it when you changed your email add...

Re: Wiki

The improved Wiki is so slick, I've put it in my signature line since I welcome so many new members. Glad you like it. I've always liked the wiki format and we had a pretty nice wiki for a while, but unfortunately it was broken for a few years due to circumstances beyond my control. When I finally ...

Re: Wiki

I have spent a few hours moving the old site out of the way. I actually tried to enable the wiki as the "main page" for homedistiller, but failed. I did learn a lot though. I'm no php programmer but I've been around computers long enough to fumble through it. I get the impression that I will have to...

Re: Downtime coming up soon

I host bigshed for a friend of mine. This shouldn't happen, assuming my settings on the server are correct.

Please report this if/when it happens.

adding to the "to do"

I'm going through the old site and wondering what's really worth saving and what isn't. Already had people ask for the calculators (which I believe are working) and also one recipe from the site. This should be posted in our recipes forum. I also copied all the pdf files into this direectory: https:...

Re: New, but not New

My fault. Trying to do away with the original home page and replace it with the wiki, and I moved the actual calc pages.

Try it now and let me know if it is working.

Re: Wiki

OK I modified the header and the main page so that they only display links for calcs, forum and wiki. A bold move which will nerf a lot of the main page, but honestly it's so bad that I don't mind. I will remove all the actual pages soon, even though they aren't linked, since the search engines will...

Re: Wiki

Updated. It's ugly. Again, with a little graphics help we can make it better. Also besides being bigger shouldn't it match whats at the top of forum page I tried that and it did not look good. I put it underneath as the first thing you read and I bolded it. Yeh but it shows a lot of potential. This...

Re: Wiki

I like it, SMY, but we have to get Husker or someone to edit that page to remove all the links to the old web site. It's been around since the late 90's and so much of the info is dated and useless. I want HD to be the wiki, the forums, and that page of calcs. But yeh, when the time is right this is...

Re: Something New

Please post in the welcome center.

Also, I'm not sure why you'd want to do this. The goal isn't the highest ABV so things like Fermaid O really shouldn't come into play for a distiller.

That would be awesome.
I for one, use the calcs all the time and would hate to lose them.
Calcs are the only hold up. Plan is to break that into one single page retained from the old site.

Re: Home Distiller T-shirts

In a previous life I was in the ad specialty business including tee shirts. Kept my hand in it a bit although my graphic design skills are a bit rusty. Often when clients asked for white or heather grey, I would suggest they also consider a Natural, unbleached "color" shirt. IN MY OPINION, it has a...

Well, I upgraded PHP from 5.6 to 7.3 and things seem to be working still.

Things are a bit more sane in the admin control panel. I hope this improves other things as well, though I can't predict it too easily.

I'm going to be working on the server-side software. This means the site will be sporadic for a while.

I'll post here when I'm done.

I added the paypal mod which inserts a Donations link at the top of the forum.

Not sure it's working, someone want to test it?
