Re: recipe for pie

We do it all the time. Here it's called macaroni cheese.
Ifn you want to get flash you add some leftover roast chichen and mushrooms and then mix some parmesan and tasty cheese and sprinkle (heavily) over the top before you put it in the oven to brown.

Re: recipe for pie

All this talk of pies makes me think of memorable (barely, because it was always the last thing you ate on the wharf before you returned to your ship) pies and venues around Australia. "Harry de Wheels" in Wooloomooloo (Sydney) always had great pies and not to forget "pie floaters&quo...

Punkin,
Do you feed your limes with anything special?

I've got one that flowers well but keeps dropping the immature fruit. I gave it some trace elements and fertilizer about 6 weeks ago but it doesn't seemed to have helped much.

Re: shop bought still

The two good parts of that still are the stainless steel bucket and domed lid. I had one for a short time a long time ago before I was in the position both with knowledge and facilitiess to build my own. It went back to the LHBS who sold the still head and plastic collection hose on consigment for f...

Re: Gluco enzyme experiment and questions......

The enzymes task is to break down the starches in the grain to make sugars that the yeast work their magic on. I don't think enzymes in a straight sugar wash will make any difference. In a UJSM they will work on the grain particularly if it has been boiled to gelatinize the starch.

Looks like all you need to make "booze" is a biro stolen from somewhere in Christchurch, a calculator stolen from your kid and a whole lot of plastic. Oh, and I'd like to know where he is getting all that methanol from a sugar wash.

I reckon you should move out and let Darwin do his thing. Unfortunately that would probably result in the innocent neighbours getting hurt - bad idea. Better idea, move him out and don't get a forwarding address.

My last reply went missing in the ether somewhere. Irish whisky is normally triple distilled, no peat and aged on used oak thae same as scotch. There is one Irish distillery that does make a peated malt though. However, if you are looking to make an Irish style yourself, double pot distillation work...

Re: Still playing up - got me buggered!

I'd pull the out put line off and make sure there is no blockage in the actual takeoff from the column, the control valve or the output line itself. I haven't seen inside one of these stills but they have to be some sort of a variatrion on a slant plate Bokabob. I had a similar problem with my slant...

Re: Carbon Filtering lowers ABV

If you have set your carbon filter up correctly before use, that is washed your carbon and made sure that it is still wet before you commence filtering, then you will get some dilution due to the water that is held by the carbon.

I just happened to be given a couple of lengths of shiny new 3/8' and 5/8' ID soft drawn copper pipe recently and thought what the heck, let's give it a shot. I had been thinking I needed a longer condenser for my potstill and this was soft drawn after all, why waste it. It hasn't been cleaned inter...
