Re: Looking for 53KW electric still control

Swede is active on AD. He logged in 3 days ago. When I see your specs, I must ask why work in 3 phases but use monophased 240V heaters that you will derate by 25%, 39.6KW? You say 53KW but you will have 140A that is more 50Kw if I'm right, but if it's your breakers rating, you must derate this to 80...

2" flute might work, but I would not try.
I had a look, but I'm planning 4" flute.
I'm waiting for a few thing to finish a modular bok from which I will reuse parts for the flute later :)

I wonder why you put corn apart for some taste.
Not cooking it and with no amylase to convert the starch, it does not contribute to sugar/alcohol content.

Anyway, good to hear you find out what was happening :)

Yes, you'd better reassemble then fill with water until no leak or else you'll have some trouble trying to assemble the cask

I read that many whiskys are in the 4 pH range.
I never came across anything about law telling which pH it has to be.

Re: Adding Cracked Corn to Beersmith

Isn't grits closer to cracked corn? Grits is listed in beersmith also. Yes, you're right ! it's the ingredient to use for corn ! http://beersmith.com/Grains/Grains/grain_42.htm Reminds me when a recipe called for corn and that I tried to cook flaked corn before mashing it. What a mess and a waste !

Re: Shotgun / dephlegmator on top of boka

I use lanthanated as per what the welders told me at the shop and it's sharp tip. I cleaned the copper with a wire brush and I sanded the stainless to rough up the surface a bit. I also cleaned the bronze rod with scouring pads as there was some green on it. I did not preheated the copper at all. I ...

Re: Shotgun / dephlegmator on top of boka

Yes I am tigging copper and stainless with silicon bronze rod, it's considered like brazing. I do like I learned: backflush with argon, direct heat more on copper because it dissipates more heat and try not to do bubbles :) I'm not that good. If you want to see really neat work, check this thread of...

Re: MashTun design

I think it's a bad idea. In beer brewing, because we are talking about beer that will distilled, there are rakes turning to cut the grain bed above the false bottom letting a space of undisturbed grain bed to act like a filter. The rake are here to prevent channeling. Search on google images for &qu...

I tested a weld for leaks tonight and.... Ok got to buy a few more ferrules as I need to practice a little bit more. :) I was not confident at all on the first weld, seemed really crappy. I never did silicon bronze, and flowing is not what I thought. Will try to post pics tomorrow as I left parts at...

Re: Failed Whiskey Mash - Everytime

I never cooked the corn so long. Are you cooking whole grain ? 165˚F is high pasteurisation temp ( 170˚F is the high temp, 150˚F is low temp ), but pasteurisation depends on time too. I agree that the healthiest yeast and rightest pitch rate, the better for the fermentation success. Yeast has to sta...

Re: Failed Whiskey Mash - Everytime

I see you took the recipe from internet. Same recipe replicated a lots of time does not make is good (nor bad). The base is a 2lbs grain per gallon water. Corn his better being gelatinized before the starch can be converted to sugar by amylases that you add or that are contained in the malted barley...

HDNB, yes I'll drink from them after a cleanup.
Contaminants in Hvac can be just some particles or greenish that could be bad for a compressors.
Every pipe has to be free from debris and corrosion, things we can clean but that they won't even try to clean for their usage.

Re: Shotgun / dephlegmator on top of boka

I think would be fine for a boka but to later turn around and try to use it for a dephleg for a flute you are likely to run into problems with too much knockdown power due to it being too long resulting in control issues. I would not use it as a dephlegmator on a flute, but as a product condenser :...

Re: Dephleg controlling for flute

I've got no flute, and I'm planing one. I've played a bit with automation and process control involving cooling control. The way I see it, it to separate the product condenser and dephlegmator cooling lines. Trying to keep something steady with variable input can be messy. There are some that put 2 ...

Shotgun / dephlegmator on top of boka

Hi all, I've searched the forum and google for some examples of bokakobs using a shotgun condenser for a bok instead of a coil. I found about nothing ! The time I'm thinking about the next flute, I wanted to build a new bok to play with and do some vodka. Here's why I'm looking for someone using a s...

Clostridium botulinum grows under certain circumstances and is a risk when you can your food. But in food caning if something goes wrong, you'll know it, and most of the time the pH is taken low. At low pH the risk of infection is lowered as I read. Well, we must distinct 2 things: spores and toxin....
