Non fermenting wash

Post by workpress »

Hi all
I have a stuck ferment as in nothing.... I am trying to ferment McDonalds orange syrup this stuff is full of sugar/ glucose- fructose, sugar, water, citric acid, orange juice concentrate, flavour, sodium benzoate, colour ( sunset yellow FccF)

My guess is a preservative is killing the yeast. The starting st. 1.060 @ 60*F
Can this be solved with heat/ boiling?
Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Not fixable. Drink it as a soda if you want. But it won't ferment.

There's a lot of good recipes to make in the Tried & True recipe forum. I suggest you look there for something to make.

If you get the pH up high, guessing 5.5-6, and keep hitting it with very active yeast bombs, you might get some action.

What kind of yeast? 60*f is pretty cool for many yeasts.

I've missed the Janitor!

Shine on you crazy diamond."

I do not know who the janitor is but perhaps he can take this syrup....

I have since directed my efforts and energy towards the Gerber recipe and it is fermenting well.

Thank you again

Nothing from McDonalds spoils. Have you not seen pictures of months old McDonalds Food beside normal food. I don't know what they put in their stuff but it is never going to ferment or rot.
