Sizing takeoff
Is there a formula or a general rule of thumb for sizing the takeoff on a pot still? Don't want to impede the vapor flow too much. Running a 5 gal. boiler, 12" diameter-113 sq. inches cross sectional surface area, with 4" opening to 1" outlet-.785 sq. inches cross section. Wondering if 1" is large enough and also if I build a larger boiler I'd like to size the takeoff without just guessing.
Re: Sizing takeoff
1" will work, a lot of pot stills have a 2" column on this forum. With a pot still the diameter size I don't believe is as important as a reflux still for run time. You obviously don't want it too small but with your still 1" going to 1/2" at your product collection should not be a problem.
I use a 1" column on my 5 gallon essential oil still.
PS: Nice looking still.
