Bentonite clay purification?
After reading a bit today an idea, possibly half cocked, came into my overthinking brain. I wondered if it was possible to pull some of the nasty crap out of low wines by adding bentonite clay or filtering through the same kind of like charcoal prior to the spirit run. After reading up on bentonite it sounds like it could grab some stuff up but not clear if it would do anything of benefit in terms of removing fusels or the like. No substitute for proper cuts of course but any opinions or experience here? Just a notion....

Bentonite helps to precipitate solids out of suspension, but it doesn't react chemically as far as I know.
I tried using the stuff awhile back but it didn't seem to make much difference.

Cool beans. I wasn't sure about it, thanks for the opinion.

Old thread I know...
I use clay to get a very clear wash (not wine... I know) prior to distilling. I've found the tan coloured clay to work much better than the grey.
Hope this helps keep your mind ticking over with options.
