You can clearly do that with your setup Chauncey. Not sure if you were just making a statement to follow up your prior posts or were giving jc975 advice. Looks like his thump is only 7.5 gallons.

My thump is 5 gallon, I have to take my apart after each run to clean and store, can’t leave it up, the tri-clamp thing is just so easy.
If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.

Now up to 13.5 main and 10.5 in thump w the gas fired double keg setup.

2 strips is a very good spirit charge.

Nice, I like the way you’re creeping up on a limit.

I’ve done 14/13 before just to see how far I could push it.
I don’t worry about the boiler puking into the thumper though. In the summer I gain about 1-1/2 gallons in the thumper that way, finishing with about 14-1/2 gallons in the thumper. I don’t think you get the foaming in the thumper like you do in the boiler, so having 2-1/2 to 3 gallons headspace seems ok. I do think that’s about the limit with 15-1/2 gallon kegs though, and the way my ferments work out I wouldn’t normally run it that full.

I haven't run a thumper yet but do want to do it for cooking the grain. Re: Foaming - Can you thump it low and slow for a while for a protein break type scenario like you can on a lone boiler?

Cheers,

Never had a foam issue with the thump. Main boiler puking into it but never it puking or foaming too bad on its own. You can always put a lil slobber box inline too id reckon

Uj style corn sugarhead. I ferment about 120 gallons at once. Just upped it from 90 by adding another brute.

My buddy/neighbor/coworker from the bar and i do it together so its less work over all with two sets.of hands. Then we split the final heart cut, age some, and drink n share alot white with our friends and neighbors.

We do one and done flute runs for our brandy and AG. Use the double.keg stripper for the sugarhead. 2 strips Makes us enough wines to charge the keg for a full spirit run and for our 1/6bbl spirit thumper.

Thanks, Chauncey. I was curious how you were utilizing the max capacity, especially any all-grain runs.

I recently had the opportunity to do back-to-back strip and spirit runs with a cohort (neighbor who has begun acquiring the pieces for a 4" keg still) and it was enjoyable. Like you say, much less work and a rewarding cut session the next day based on mutual input.
