Column packing parameters for copper mesh ? Fractional voids, diameter, Surface Tension ?

Post by closetdistiller »

Does anyone have the parameters for copper mesh when used as a packing ? (https://homedistiller.org/wiki/index.php/htm/calc ... x_calc.htm)

% fractional voids - %
Diameter of packing - m
Surface area of packing - m^2/m^3
Critical surface tension - N/m

Is copper mesh a better packing material (lower HETP) than SS scrubbers ?

If someone gets me these numbers, I'll add them to the reflux calculator page.
https://homedistiller.org/wiki/index.php/htm/calc ... x_calc.htm

Thanks

Sorry, cd, that you didn't get an answer here yet. I am also searching for the very same recommendations for copper mesh parameters, that is how I found your post. Are you still looking? What have you learned so far?

Copper mesh won't be as densely packed as ss scrubbers. There will be more void.

I think those calculators haven't been updated in a long time because there are some problems with them. They are an ok rule of thumb for ss scrubbies, but the real world performance of rings and spp seem to point to the calculators being too simple. For copper mesh, I'd go somewhere between ss scrubbies and 6mm rings.
