looking for an id on a part here

Post by dunluce »

Someone posted this for sale nearby....
11" wide
7" tall and about 4.5" thick
quite heavy, very old and solid, heavy copper wall was used, riveted and soldered
from a bunch of old potatoe still components
bottom is 1/4" npt tapped

Any idea what part it might be? Boiler compartment? Worth picking up?

No idea what it is, but I’d leave it where it is .
They got the length and width all arse about . Hate to imagine what 4.5” thick means .

Lead soldered too , most probably .

Not every copper deal is a good one .If it can be had for a $ then grab it for scrap . If they think its worth something , let them sell it to a fool

Functionally speaking, there is nothing special there.
You'd have to crowbar it into a design if you incorporated into your outfit.
Not saying a creative fabricator couldn't do something cool with it. But in its present form, if it is intended to be a still part, it was likely part of a contraption.
Trample the injured and hurdle the dead.

Thanks for the info guys, will probabaly pass on it then. Only wants $60 CAD for it, but if I need to make money off of scrap by buying this, I probably have bigger issues. Was hoping it might be something neat that I haven't come across before, but also figured I might just find lead solder and wish I had never bought it. lol

If someone DOES figure out what it might have been....well, inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Thanks again.
