Guess I'll be trying my hand at winemaking

Post by Chauncey »

My grandfather is sick with cancer unfortunately, and he doesn't have much time left. so he has given me all of his winemaking supplies. It's alot of stuff too. Guess I'ma start making some wine. If it comes out bad I'll just still it.

I've made some fruit ferments before but never wine.

Like ten carboys and bunch of buckets so I'll be using those for my whiskey mashes too.

So sorry to hear that. Lost my grandma that way and it was sad to watch her wilt from the woman she was.
To pass the time ultimately, is it possible to confer his wine-making advice while he's still with us?
It would occupy his mind and you'd learn the craft. Win-win.

I have some of the equipment my wife’s aunt and her husband used to make wine. Along with carboys I got a really nice scale for measuring grain and sugar, holds about 5 lbs of sugar at a time.

Sorry for the news of such a disastrous disease.

As mentioned, get as much info as possible and it will give you time to spend quality moments with him and talk about something he had a passion for.

I just listen. Heavy pain killers seem to have his mind elsewhere. I appreciate yalls kind words. I've actually helped him a little before with it but mostly just hefting fermenters but I always listened and observed as closely as I can
