So hey, how's your last 24 hours been?

Post by Uncle Jesse »

Hiya,

Saturday night I undertook the multi-hours long job of upgrading phpBB from 3.0.x to 3.2.x. It took a long time but seemed to go OK.

Today I woke up and most people couldn't see any forums. Turns out that while the forum permissions show up just fine, they weren't working. I had to delete all of them and put them back in by hand, which takes quite a bit of time. No huge deal, but nonetheless a hassle.

So after getting the permissions mostly straightened out, thanks to some help from our favorite Admin Tater, I decided hey, I'm brilliant and unstoppable, why not try to install Tapatalk now?

OK, no problem, download and extract it, start to move things into place... and accidentally delete most of the files in the new forum directory, killing the site!

So, after nearly breaking a few things, I restored the old database tables and forum software, and went through the entire process again.

Tater is helping me restore the forum permissions. What a wonderful day to be alive!

I have no idea what the new forums bring in, but it should allow me to upgrade server-side software and hopefully get videos working again, as well as Tapatalk.

Please let me know if you encounter and oddities or bugs or things which just plain piss you off. I've still got a lot of work to do.

Hope you folks enjoy the upgraded system.

Thanks Uncle Jesse and Tater. your hard work is appreciated. I don't see active topics, but it is really to soon in your

process and my learning curve to make any other comment other than its different for sure.

thanks again for your hard work. cob

Thanks Uncle Jesse and Tater for all the work you do in keeping this great forum up and running

The new config, at least for me, running Firefox on a mac - the pages are more compact, not full screen like they used to be. Maybe this is the future but all that white screen on the sides??

Thanks for all you do

Recent messages were lost.
There is a loss of messages written from at least yesterday afternoon, maybe yesterday morning.
I have noticed at least two messages of mine which disappeared.

I don't know if you aware of the problem, so I thought it well to point it out.

Cheers

Thanks for all the hard work both maintaining and upgrading the site! Glad to see things are back online.

My observations from Android mobile device.

Overall, the updated interface is much easier to navigate on mobile.

Some minor oddities:
Topics don't seem to show the name of their original poster, only the last poster. Similarly the number of thread views doesn't seem to be shown anywhere. HD Google Search and donation buttons also appear to be MIA.

I will be around a bit, doing some admin work, trying to help get things running as they were before the upgrade, and actually trying to get them working better than before. I know there are several things on the board needing addressed which over the last few years (since I self retired), have started working not as well as they should. Had a phone chat this morning with tater (great chat), and some email with Jesse earlier, and I will be here providing any help I can to get this great site running 'like a top' , lol.

As for tapatalk, i will probably have to address that, since this site was already tapatalk and linked to my tapatalk account. We will get things functioning. But anything you notice that 'worked' this way last week, but 'is missing' this week, post it here. I know there are some menu items missing. That was custom work I did, and I will have to dig into the changes I made on the old 3.0 code, and figure out how to move those changes over to 3.2 Should not be huge, but does need done.

Thanks for all your efforts. I've upgraded phpBB a time or two, and it's never completely straight-forward. It's appreciated.

Heretofore, I'd surfed this site via a 'new posts' function. Will you replace it?

Small but annoying item.

Within a thread. The size of the poster's name is quite small and seems to hide in it's allocated space (large); also it'd be great to see avatars there which I think they used to before.

Observed on Android mobile.

Spammers - holy crap they've been busy:

One group replying to each other's posts, from an equipment supplier:
papidesu - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=74900
Cattleya07 - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=74897
JoyD - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=74890

Different ones, generic spam:
NgocHLV - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=74901
anuzlato - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=74898

Looks good. Reminds me of years ago when I was on alot of forums all the time. The HD forum had an old vib compared to them, maybe thats why I like it. Change is good from time to time.

Ill let you know of any problems I run across.

Yes, I have the same irritation. I now read forum and have to go back on post to see who was talking. Member name and icon so small.

That's due to spammer's accounts being removed.

Forum doesn't seem to be working here yet.
In Australia, though location may not have anything to do with it...

Though I always browse by reading the Unread posts...
Which I can't find at the moment.
