I grow lots of stuff and do lots of canning. I love hot peppers and devote a lot of my growing space to them, but also grow mixed greens, squash, a few varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, garlic, pumpkins, celery, beans, carrots, broccoli (although my entire broccoli crop was devastated by little moths this year in 3 days), and herbs that we dry. It's about -3 degrees C here right now... your pictures are making me long for the warm spring and summertime weather. Very nice looking gardens!

My wifes been working on ours while I am rebuilding a trailer. We don't have a dedicated vegetable garden but have vegetables dispursed through-out our garden sections. We also help my son as he has 3 sections in a community garden that we share with him.

Been looking forward to a thread like this Googe! You got a mighty fine setup, I wish my plants were that mature.

Just moved into the country in Eastern Wa and started my first outdoor garden. It's a 300 square foot veggie and herb garden, and growing. Will be 1,000' next year. I plan on growing, raising, or hunting most of my family's food. Got it all fenced in to keep the deer out and soaker hose laid down. Haven't bothered hooking up the timers yet because I like being out there, it's so incredibly peaceful. I Spend most of my morning watering and weeding before the heat of the day, then spend a hour here reading/posting.

Not to mention we have 20 fruit trees, a giant strawberry patch, raspberries, blueberries....ect You can walk the perimeter of our 5 acres eating berries and fruit your whole way around.

I have had mine tilled for about a week. Got some plants started in pots and such. I'm gonna turn the ground over again tomorrow, then probably plant the middle of the week. We have cauliflower, kohlraibis, onions, sweet peppers, banana peppers, corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, and a few others that I can't remember to plant.

Sounds like my dream.garden Bearriver, lot of work I bet!. Sounds like you've got everything working well, would like piccys?.
Good stuff rock  our asparagus was beautiful last year, took two years to get it though lol. Our basil never grows more than 6" then dies or looks cooked, any ideas how to grow it good?. Our parsley, thyme, vergmont, mint, chives, spring onions, never stop growing though, just can't grow basil! Lol. Our zukini went mental this year jedneck!, got some.good taters too, I want to plant squash but the missus doesn't like it and I'd never eat enough to keep up lol . Good luck with the growing fellas

This is some of the zukini, or marrow, had one last year that was 4.5 kg lol.

I built my wife a killer green house to get her veggie starts going. She was slow to use it this year, so it has turned into my corn sprouting room. It counts as growing some type of produce, right?

I worked at a cheese factory for about 8 years, need to try my hand at making some again!. Best thing for vegies is making washes red rim! Lol, ive done many different types from the garden now!.

I have been following your threads on veggie washes. Crazy creative! Keep em coming. My next door neighbor grows an acre garden. It has made me lazy. They feed more veggies to their cows than 10 people could eat. That is where I got my first batch of corn for whisky. Nothing like fresh from the garden.

Pickle em. LOL. I could prolly eat a pickled cat turd. 'specially if there's some garlic and hot peppers steeping in the jar with it.

I can. my garden is mostly geared towards it. Cukes. Tomatoes. Zucchini, yellow squash, acorn squash and peppers. I can pickles, salsa, tomato sauce. I also can applesauce, peaches and venison (but those are purchased)

Thanks googe! Here is a pic my wife took of me out in the garden 15 minutes ago, planting seeds and what not. It will be exactly 3 times bigger next year, which should feed my wife, me, and the 2 youngins.

We had ice/snow on the ground last month, because I am on the east side of Wa state. It's more like the desert than rainforest I'm used to.

Try not to beat me up for letting the flower garden look like that.

They look good jimbo!, love asparagus!!, not the stench though!. Our strawberries went crazy this year bushman, lost many due to laziness and not picking them :esad: . I made a strawberry liqueur last year, very very nice, good way to get rid of them!. Love home made tom sauce culvercreek!!, missus does a nice one, and tom paste for pizza!. That does look yummy red rim!, been thinking of flavoring like that, might have to steal your idea!.

@ Red Rim: I would tame her down to cask strength (125 proof) for straight drinking. It looks soo very painfully tasty... hmmm... Just don't let Jimbo see it, he'll follow you around like a puppy dog till you burn him.

Oh it tastes better than it looks. I was told today I need to get my license and sell that stuff. I made it as a red hot bloody Mary mixer, by it is damn good straight. The alcohol opens everything up and then the capsaicin burns it up.... And then you come back for more.

Basil needs well draining loamy soil. After 6 weeks, pinch off the center shoot to prevent early flowering. If flowers do grow, just cut them off. This will keep the plant in the vegetative state.

Keep the PH of the soil 5.5-6.5 and water with no more than 700-1,120 PPM.

Do you water with a sprinkler? Its best to water in the earliest morning, and avoid getting the foliage wet. This prevents sunburn, the roots getting cooked, dampening off, and a myriad of other garden woes. Also watch out for over-watering, which is characterized by yellowing new growth, and eventually death.

HA! In lieu of a PPM meter, many fertilizers will say on the packaging what ratios constitute which ppm levels. Its to keep track of how much fertilizer to use while watering certain plants. Like checking the soil PH, it can be useful. Most people use Miracle Grow or even something organic from a nursery.

700 PPM is half strength from what what you would put on an average adult plant. So If the fertilizer package says to use 4 tbs per gallon, in this case you would go with 2 instead.

Malted, smoked, ground, mashed, fermented. I just siphoned it into the boiler and waiting for a few hours to distill it. The greenhouse will never be the same after malting the corn in there.
