Re: Metal cutting
I used a CNC plasma cutter to cut the 4" opening in the top of my keg for my 4" ferrule. Pretty cool, has more cleaning g of the edges than the CNC lazer cutter I have used for other projects.
Nice work!
Nice work!
Re: Metal cutting

A “Mad Max” trophy, for sure. Dip it in sulphuric acid for a little of the patina. Nice, googe.

Yep postage would be a killer HDNB lol. Thanks bushman, I remember you saying about your keg . We have a 6kw LVD 12530 laser now too, its a beast!. https://www.lvdgroup.com/en/products/co ... puls-40-30" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
Thanks pf, its about 15kg, almost gave me a hernia trying to hang it on the wall . Cheers still stirin, its corten steal, it naturally gets a rust layer that protects it from completely rusting out.

Wow, lot bigger machine than I used. Was it much of a learning curve?
Re: Metal cutting
ive only used it a couple of times bushman, doesnt seem to complex. most machines are idiot proof these days lol. biggest issues usually are programing errors.

Re: Metal cutting
I used our smaller CNC plasma cutter to cut in the other shop the 4" opening in my keg for my 4" ferrule worked slick. Most of my experience and some of the products I cut for Mash Rookie were done on a CNC milling machine, slow but very accurate.

Nicely done !!!

Nice googe . What size steel are you cutting there ?
LOL , love the + Z- written on the cutter . I get that …. scratch my head everytime I have to adjust Z offset on 3D printer at work .

Re: Metal cutting
This thread brings back great memories of before retiring and having two CNC machines, a 3D printer, and a CNC plasma cutter. Would loved to have had a later cutter as well.

Re: Metal cutting
I just picked up a plasma CNC, needs assembled still but it sits in the garage shop at the moment, should be able to cut copper rather easily so I'll be looking into some cross-hobby work for sure. I've also got a wood CNC, a small desktop laser and a resin and a filament 3D printer. Can't get enough of these machines.

Re: Metal cutting
I've got a 4" ferrule to add to my thumper this summer, was contemplating plasma cutter by hand, with the table, Im not sure how to rig up the CNC to cut it just yet.
For my copper pot still, we had a local company cut it all on their plasma CNC after hours, we went a bit heavy gauge and it was proving to be quite futile to hand-cut it all out. Thinking about doing the same and making a small stove-top pot still, just for recipe development.
Or perhaps using the plasma cnc when its up and running, to cut diffuser/shotgun plates,

Re: Metal cutting
If you do the boiler be sure and add water to the bottom before cutting to make the slag easier to clean out.BlueSasquatch wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 5:46 amI've got a 4" ferrule to add to my thumper this summer, was contemplating plasma cutter by hand, with the table, Im not sure how to rig up the CNC to cut it just yet.

Re: Metal cutting
Its 6mm yummy. I'm no expert but all I know is fibre laser uses fibre optic for the beem and the others are co2. Fibre cuts copper brass abd alum and stainless better. One of the reasons I'm learning it is to cut some copper plates lol
