Gentian Liqueur

Post by Infusionist_br »

I'm trying to make some White Negroni. Can't find gentian liqueur where I live, not even in my country. So I want to make my own. Any recipes out there? I know its not something popular, but can't hurt to ask... ha! Thanks!

Steep some root in your chosen base spirit, filter, taste, then dilute it to suit your purpose. I ordered some a couple of days ago and when it arrives, that is what I'll be doing.

If you want something a little more complex, here is a recipe from "Il Liquorista Pratico", by Luigi Sala (1931):

Gentian root 50g
Mace 10g
Clove 10g
Cinnamon 10g
Calamus 20g
Alcohol 4l
Water 6l
Sugar 4kg

Macerate the botanicals in the alcohol for 8 days, dilute with the sugar syrup, filter.

I've not tested it myself, but I've generally been pleased with the recipes from this book that I have tried.

How about this? Haven't tried it yet, but I'll be making it as soon as my Gentian root comes in.

Highly recommend watching this guy.

Edit: I know it's not what you're after, but it is kind of related.
