Gin Pink

Post by Mviegas »

Hi, anyone have a recipe of a pink gin?

I've tried a basic recipe of gin and after the distillation, i macerate the gin for 24 hour's with raspberry and strawberry.
After that i pass it through a coffee filter , add some sugar and that's it.

But my question is, why i didn't get the same sweetness like a Gordon's pink or Beefeater?

Pink no, blue/lite purple yes.

Berries would give you color but likely they would degrade quickly, particularly around UV.

Food coloring might get you where you want to be...

Just trying to find out—are you trying to duplicate or make a true Pink Gin. That is made with gin and Angostura bitters which I believe are deep red in color. It was invented as a drink in England if memory serves back in the day when they played croquet and such. But I think some companies actually make it up now all together in the bottle ready to go.

Maybe NZ will be along shortly to give us the full deal.
If in doubt leave it out.

Ouch! I play croquet. I think I just aged another decade.

Another vice of mine is woodworking and I made my own set oak/walnut mallets, gates and stakes. I did have to buy the balls.

I've never tasted the pink gin you are talking about and don't know if it's fruit flavored, or not.

There is a brief description of how I make pink Raspberry Gin here: https://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtop ... 0#p7628047
I have done pink Rhubarb Gin using the same method.

from my old barman days, a pink gin was just gin with angostura bitters.
put a few drops of the bitters in the glass, swirl it around, and tip out anything that didn't cling to the inside of the glass.
then pour gin in.
or the order 'pink gin and leave it in' was the same only not tipping the bitters out.
but that was in an area that most customers thought half a mild mixed with a bottle of brown ale was a cocktail

Interesting I too do a little WW. I bet the walnut looks good as a contrast. Would be neat to see one. I haven't played in
many years but I enjoyed the rhythm. Good time to enjoy a day in the sun in polite company.

Hibiscus flowers and raspberries also are common ways to get a pink color.

Gordon's and Beefeater pink is sweet because it's intentionally sweetened. So it's safe to assume that a lot more stuff has been added.

I drop a few rasberries into a bottle of OEG now and then (fresh or frozen). You get a faint pink blush after a few days and a slight sweetness. Really nice. I tried some blackberries as well in the last 'experiment'. Oddly enough, the rasberries stay red but all the colour leaches out of the blackberries.

Seemed to go down well at last night's poker nite. There was an empty litre bottle in the kitchen this morning. And I have a recollection of everyone doing corn likker shots every time the blinds went up...
