My Gin Pot

Post by 8Ball »

After working through sugar heads, bourbons, rums, irish & single malt whiskies, and mescal, I’ve decided to dip my toe into the gin tub. From what I’ve read, you need a gin pot. So I made one today. Here it is going through its initial cleaning run. All sealed up and no leaks.

Nice piece. I built one stainless time these days that can be used in "Bain Marie" mode, mostly done with pieces that I found locally and pieces of scrap, I will make a post in a while.

I like the riser support and the windscreen! Looks like my first 2 years before electric.

Thanks. Thats a temporary support using paracord. I’m going to make something more heat resistant to use in its place. Probably a piece of pipe hanger strap and the paracord. The windscreen is used all the time since I live near the coast and it stays breezy at my outdoor shelter.

Kick Ass 8ball! Is that a handle I see on the boiler?

That’s a killer gin/maceration/infusion batch still! Love the dimples and character too!

Great compact size for indoors/hotplate afternoon short run. What’s the boiler capacity!

Cheers,
J

Its a 1.5L total to the very top. Yep, push on lid. Got it for $23 off of Amazon. Pure copper.

Its 1.5L. 1” riser reduced to 1/2”. I added an extra bottom to it with some 24 gauge copper sheet to beef it up some.

Well, it works great! Made two trial batches of dry gin and trying out the first homemade G&T! Hands down a very good drink.

Yep, 1L. That way you can scale it up if you like it.
