I think I've heard Metamucil mentioned associated with a recipe somewhere but I can't recall where... I surf about so much it's hard to keep track...
I just read the nutritional information and I don't see much in it other than Psyllium Husk, Maltodextrin, and Citric Acid... If you have some on hand it might be worth trying but I wouldn't make a special purchase for use my my wash, personally...

Agreed rad.
I was whipping up a rum wash last night and started contemplating. But I'm trying to keep my rum plan intact and don't want to add anymore variables. BTW, gerber in the (rum) wash is going very well.
I will definitely test it out as we do keep it in the house. And my I say,,,,,,,it would seem that,,,, the yeast would,,,,,,,,,,,,,,appreciate it.

One with (7) panela blocks and (1) molassas

LWTCS my gerber rum was prety dry a couple days ago. It worked off good now I need to rack it.

Ok, not much interest in the metamucil. Perhaps the stigma,,,,,,,thang.
No matter. Here is the update:
I did not want to test this while trying to establish multiple generations of rum, but i just don't have the extra time to get side tracked on an experiment. So I crowbared this into my rum cycle and thank goodness it seems to be taking off really well.
If any one has used Metamucil then you know that the stuff will swell/expand if not immediately consumed. Kind of like a membrane sort of consistacy. Very similar to how yeast can expand and multiply when making a starter or the like. I am not sure if this phenomena
aids the ferment cycle or not. But the friggin thing looks like a lava bed.
Perhaps this helps to suspend the solids within the wash giving the yeast better access to nutrients or some such damn thing?
I have not yet had any of my rum washes react so aggressively.
That is not to say that this is good as such. Its just that,,,,,,I have not had a ferment this aggressive since my Bran Wash cycle.

Breif update:
I was concerned that the wash may stall due to some ingreadient or the like.
But it is still going stong.
I added 4 table spoons to the 20 liter volume. I think I may add a little more (next batch) and see how far it can be pushed.

It appears that all suspended solids have settled down except for the membrane like (metamucil) cap. The cap was very well intact. I pushed on it to get a spoon in for a taste.
Smells just fine and tastes dry. I don't have any testing tools yet but it tastes pretty alcoholey.
Friggin cap looks like shite though.
I won't know about off tastes till next week. My still is charged with last weeks batch now.

I'd propose that in order to make a conclusive determination of it's usefulness that it be testing with a simple sugar wash with alongside a duplicate wash without...

Agreed.
I was impressed with the vigor compared to the my other rum batches. But even then I've done three recipes for four batches.
I now know that there was no obvious problems. But in order to get a useable bench mark, a side by side would be the only way for someone as unscientific as myself.

Small update:
Settled out good when racked to the fridge in glass jugs. The wash seems to have slightly finer suspended particulates. Normally the solids pack down kinda nice after a few days in the fridge. But this batch seems to have a very fine layer on top that will easily stir up.
No off smell to speak of. I've got a bit of Gerber in there and thats really the only secondary smell comming through the rum wash.

I whould thank the way to test a nutrient whould be a sugar wash with and with out your test ingredient. if you have a mixture with other
ingredients/nutrients you wont know what did what.

I agree with your assertion 100%
I really approached this experiment the wrong way.
I am typically always strapped for time and so I elected to force this ingredient into my rum cycle (out of curiosity).
