Adding malt to DWWG

Post by HooBilly »

Have done quite a few small runs of DWWG, but planning on scaling up to 25 US gal and adding wheat malt to add more wheat flavor and some maltiness. My question is should I reduce the sugar I add if I add in malt. I plan on 6 to 8 lbs crushed soft white wheat malt. I am not sure if malting the grain and adding the sugar scaled to the recipe will result in to much left over sugars after ferment or not.. It may sound like a dumb question to some, but its kinda bothering me in the back of my little mind.. Thanks for any input or help..

you can figure that out,,, each 2lb of malt will equal about 1 lb of sugar.
a brewer can step in but I don't thank wheat malt is going to add much flavor.

Thats the magic number I was looking for. So with 10 lbs malt I just scale back 5 lbs of sugar. I didnt figure the wheat malt would add a lot of flavor, but I am hoping it will add a tad bit more wheat flavor.. Maybe some crushed All Bran cereal... ??

And thanks for the reply and info Dunder..

wheat is used in beer to make it liter and add body ,, in distilling it is used for vodka. pick what you want, the more flavorful the ingredients the more flavor you will git in your product.
