Indoor Finishing Still?

Post by Skymeat »

Long tome reading and distilling, but haven't been here for ages.

Currently I'm running a 2" Bokabob about 4' high. After the first run I'm getting 170-180 proof, but is needs a second run. I'm thinking about making a small stove top model to do the finishing runs, rather than sitting in the garage in freezing weather for hours. Any ideas/plans for something that can take 1 gallon distillate, 1 gallon water and refine what I've already got?

Thanks,
Skymeat

That's what I figured. Perhaps time for an industrial hotplate and move inside.

Oh I was thinking you had a stock pile of cut neutuals and such that you were going to run thru the little still for infusions and such.

I think I would be going the other way. Do a stripping run then a spirit run in the boka.

That's what I'm thinking too. A properly run Bok should be able to give you 187-190 proof easily. But not quickly (My run Saturday started at 6AM and finished at Midnight - arrrgg).

I'm just getting back into it - So a little behind on my education. Sorry for the rudimentary questions.

I think I'm going to make a stripping head that I can run outside, and use the Boka head inside on electric. The first couple times I used it I did it indoors with great success, but I opted for propane for some reason and kind of forgot about how well it worked under electricity.

Luckily I have a completely modular design, just a keg with clamp and a head. So I can make a keg that has a heating element, and a stripping head then mix and match as the weather allows.
