rolled wheat / rolled oats
Will this ferment?
4 lb rolled wheat
4 lb rolled oats
5 gals water (no boiling)
packet of Red Star Premium Blanc Yeast (instead of yellow label angel yeast)
ferment for a couple weeks at about 68°F / 20°C in my basement?
Got the idea from Still It (Jesse) and kinda wondering whether I missed something in his video.

No, there is no malted grains or added enzymes to break down the starches to sugars. Assuming the grains were steam rolled they will have been gelatinized so adding a couple lb of malted barley and mashing for an hour at 155 F will do the trick though. i would recommend a tried and true recipe though.
Short story is that yeast need sugar. Grain are mostly starch. the process of malting and mashing converts starch to sugar to make happy yeast. There is a lot of info here on malting and mashing or you can go to homebrewtalk.com They talk beer there but the mashing is much the same. Just don't add the hops

After watching Jesse's video "The Laziest Dam Vodka Mash - All Grain Vodka" I wondered about the sugar. I didn't see how the yeast could do their magic. I'll get some enzymes.

Jesse's video works because Yellow Label yeast contains the enzymes needed to convert the starch. If you're using ordinary yeast then you need to supplement the enzymes.
I'm waiting on my pack of Yellow Label to turn up. I like the idea of a lazy AG vodka.

I figured that out. I ordered some Yellow Label and some enzymes so I'll have both on hand.NormandieStill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:49 am Jesse's video works because Yellow Label yeast contains the enzymes needed to convert the starch. If you have a little patience, you can order it direct from China for around the half the price. But that's the stuff.

I know it's been awhile, but how did the GW ferment comeout using the Yellow Labeled Yeast? I couldn't find any update on it.
