Can I add yeast to cold mash?

Post by Zzzmaggie »

The pot I use to cook mash is not very big. Im hoping i could cook enough to fill my fermenter in two batches then add yeast once its all finished and in the bucket. Is this possible?

Yes. You should check the temp range for the yeast you’re using and your mash temp when you add enzymes or malts. Usually 150*F for enzymes and malts and 85F for bakers yeast.

Cheers!

as long as you bring the fermenter contents to at a suitable temp for the particular yeast it should be ok.
are you doing the mashes in the same day?
otherwise your biggest problem could be storing the mash, i got a bad infection just overnight recently(the mash, not me :) )
you can probably store hot wort/wash/mash in HDPE cubes, or something airtight.

Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

Of course, no problem to divide your mash.
