First Sugar wash underway
21l of water
5kg of Sugar
OG - 1.64 @ 28 deg C
PH 5.21
I'm using Turbo Yeast, (not that bothered really its a sacrificial run and it came with my still)
Is there anything else I need to record or check?

I would hope that your OG is 1.064. 1.64 would give you around 85% abv out of the ferment and would let you bypass the distilling altogether!

Re: First Sugar wash underway
How long did your sugar wash fermentation take?
What was your SG and ending gravity?
What was your temperature range during fermentation?
I too just completed a sacrificial sugar wash and run as of today.
I'm curious to learn what your distillate looked like coming out of the condenser. Mine was a tad yellowish at first, and then cleared up a bit halfway through. Some distillate, from what I've read, comes off blueish during a still's initial run.

Oh, ok. In that case, I look forward to hearing about the entire process.
Good Luck!

I just checked on it, the heater I have is keeping it at 28 degrees C, and it's bubbling like crazy, you can actually hear it fizzing. And it smells like warm bread. I'm getting excited.

Day two.
The wash temp has increased to 30 deg C, much warmer than the ambient temp of 20 deg, it's still fizzing away, the air lock last night was bubbling like crazy, it's now slowed down to a slow blip.
The bread smell remains strongly, good job I love that smell.

Re: First Sugar wash underway
I've finished my first distillation today. My 25l wash fermented to just over 11% abv.
I discarded the first 100ml just in case, then took cuts every 200ml.
The abv held strong at over 90% through most of the run.
I then stopped it short as the distillate started to taste bitter, it smelt ok, but with the taste changing I thought it a good idea to stop.
I ended up with 9 200ml jars ranging from 96% down to 90% abv, which I'll leave to settle and then see how they smell/taste
I'm discarding this run anyway, it was a sacrificial cleaning run.
My next wash is already underway.

Was your wash clear coming out of distillation? Mine was a little yellowish at first. The latter half was clearer.

If this is your sac run then skip the tasting... otherwise it's not sacrificial!Hudster2001 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 12:09 pm I ended up with 9 200ml jars ranging from 96% down to 90% abv, which I'll leave to settle and then see how they smell/taste

Re: First Sugar wash underway
It's only a wee taste literally only enough to coat a spoon, I'm just wanting to see if I can tell the difference between cuts. After that it's all going in a jar to be used for cleaning.NormandieStill wrote:If this is your sac run then skip the tasting... otherwise it's not sacrificial!Hudster2001 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 12:09 pm I ended up with 9 200ml jars ranging from 96% down to 90% abv, which I'll leave to settle and then see how they smell/taste

"It's only a wee taste"
But do you know what's in it and how many ppm? I assume this is a Chinese still not a home build since you said the still came with turbo yeast. Lord only knows what kinda shit is in that distillate.

It's a T500, but I get your point, I'm not going to taste it, just smell the cuts over the next week or so and see how it changes.
