Collecting undrunken stuff / leftovers

Post by Kindafrench »

Dear HDs,

I'm here on HD since a couple of years and I'm very happy with what I learned and I get quite a decent likker out of my still, but there's a question showing up and I wonder what other HDs do or don't.

What some of you might do, is making vinegar. Put your leftover wine into the vinegar pot and let the wonderful world of micro organisms take care of it and make a nice drop of acid, whatever color and taste.
Now there's coctails and longdrinks which goes down the drain the next day, because nobody wants to drink 'em anymore. Now my question:
Does anybody collect leftover cocktails or longdrinks, maybe together with wine, or generally all alcohol leftovers to reuse them in a wash or thrown in an all faints run?

I'm going for a neutral product and I know it's not really worth talking about it, but you know, why not ask :)
(I'm worried about the sugar in some leftovers and scorching)

Stay safe.

Just be careful of cigarette butts hiding in the glasses (a la Spalding in "Caddyshack").

+1 Ha!!
🎱 The struggle is real and this rabbit hole just got interesting.
Per a conversation I had with Mr. Jay Gibbs regarding white oak barrel staves: “…you gotta get it burning good.”

MihiT, maybe you have led a sheltered life!

As have I, actually, but I can guess.

If you're worried about scorching on sugar then either treat it as a normal wash and pitch yeast and let it ferment out, or turn down the heat, or run it in a thumper, or run a steam still.

But really there's probably easier ways to get neutral.

Shewt, Hawk would collect all manner (cigarette butts included) of un-consumed alcohol from his daughter's catering gigs.
Re-distill all of it.
They don't call it distilling for nothing......

If you're worried about scorching on sugar then either treat it as a normal wash and pitch yeast and let it ferment out

Or throw some in another wash. Not too much so it doesn't affect the wash.

The sugar content will ferment, and the alcohol content will distil out with the rest of the wash...

Might be careful of Zambuccas and Ouzo as the Aniceed might be hard to knock out of it .
