Filthy brand new stainless still dragon parrot

Post by BrewinBrian44 »

I guess this is a novice question.

So I bought a very nice stainless parrot from still dragon and I’m attempting to clean it.

I made a solution of TSP for a nice manual scrubbing. At first things seemed to be pretty clean til I got to the output tube… filled with some oily black gunk. I’m assuming it’s polishing compound.

With all my new parts, I usually just do a nice vinegar run and sac run, but this thing seems pretty incompatible with that. Even if I were to let hot steam blow out, it won’t reach the nasty output tube.

How should I clean this damn thing?!

Thanks,
-Brian

I like to remove organic crap from stainless with a hot (160F) PBW soak. That'll probably work on that waxy compound. I also like Barkeeper's Friend and would scrub it after the soak.

Update. Took forever to get to it, but I ended up completely disassembling the parrot and my new huge 2” ball valve and threw them in the dishwasher for a heavy duty cycle with pbw in the detergent tray instead of regular dishwasher soap. Hopefully it gets the grime off!

I’m glad I disassembled the ball valves, they still had tons of manufacturing crap buried inside. I had to buy a huge ass pipe wrench on Amazon to get the big ball valve apart. At least I’ll have some peace of mind now.

So after the pbw dishwasher treatment… vinegar soak or alcohol soak? Wish I had some extra heads laying around. Dumped it all down the drain on one of my last runs.

The barkeepers friend scrub seems like a good idea too
