Looking for a work around, the outlet that sold me my 2 by 1 by 2 inch copper tee sent me a 3/4 by 2 inch by 2 inch copper tee so do you see any reason why I couldn't reduce from 1 inch to 3\4 th to 1 inch within the copper tee for 3 inches tops?
The 3/4" would have been fine. Its plenty big enough and a lot cheaper and easier to get. Mine is 1" and its fine. I'd go 3/4" if I had to start over. Nice looking rig bud!

I'm setting up with one inch between the boiler and the condenser.
(pot still at the moment but with ferrules so may be a reflux too, later).

Because I happened to have a lot of the one inch and enough fittings to go with it.

Just seeing this thread and wondering where you guys put your temperature gauge, seems like the exit of the thumper might be the logical spot

Never have needed a temp gauge on any still. I don't even have on on my flute. your mileage may vary.

Yes, the first question is what do you want the themometer to tell you? And what will you do with the info. If you want to drive your still by temp, read some more.

On a potstill you may decide to stop your run at a certain temp but your smell and taste will tell you better.

On a reflux still doing vodka a themometer is good to show you the marginal increase in vapour temp where you should stop collection, but cuts based on smell and taste will make better product.

I don’t run my still by temp, I do use smell and taste as my guide. I do like knowing where I am by temp for my own information, that’s why I’m asking where folks put a temp gauge, if you use one.

I find in the boiler in the charge for a potstill when i do strips the most valuable. For my platers/flutes and packed column in the vapour path below takeoff.

My temp gauge is at the high point of my pot head. I'm measuring vapor tenps, which seems to me to be a different, tho possibly more accurate measurement. Liquid temps are local, not necessarily accurate for the entire volume. Vapor temps seem to be more appropriate because of mixing etc,

That said, ask me to defend that point and I can't. What say you?
