new build on a budget

Post by BillyPrefect »

Hi.
First time writing, long time reading.
Looking to see if my thoughts are ok for a pot still with liebig, based on the copper I've scrounged from around me.
I've got a 5 gallon stainless stock pot, mounted a 2 gallon stainless bowl to the lid and cut out the lid for that opening.
I've soldered/mounted a 2 foot long piece of 2" copper to that, soldered a short piece of 3/4" copper to a cap for that (random length about 8").
Now... here's where I'm at.
I' thinking a 90 on that, then a union, then another 90, this will let me pivot the future liebig. I was thinking 36" length of 3/4" wrapped around a 1/2" (all copper of course) and have that lead to where I intend to feed a parrot.
Will that work out ok ?
I was hoping that I could eventually make a separate 3/4" piece to tie to that union and feed a thumper at some point and then out of the thumper into the liebig, being a union joint.
Hard to get good sized copper up here, HomeDepot.ca vs HomeDepot.com -- so many more options at .com .
just messing with buckets and steel and copper.

It’s a “basic potstill” and should work fine as such.

The 36” long 3/4” over 1/2” Liebig should handle up to 3kW power, maybe more if needed.

How are you heating the boiler? Planning to cool with the tap, or a reservoir?

propane burner for heat and cold cold well water for cooling. spent water into the above ground swimming pool for filling and the redneck factor.
my general goal is rum based, and the occasional whiskey possibly.
just messing with buckets and steel and copper.
