Pot Sill Element Gasket

Post by SpeakEasy »

Hey all,
I have a 10 gallon copper pot still with a 5500w water heater powering it. This weekend I did my cleaning run and the way my temp probe and control box is set up, I will have to take the element out after every use. That being said, when I took the element out after the cleaning run, the gasket was destroyed.
What does everyone use for gaskets and where can I purchase in bulk?
Thank you,
S/E

I've never heard of that problem before, why do you need a temp probe in a pot still? ...could you give a few more details so that others don't fall into the same trap?
It sounds very unusual to say the least.

Is it a tri-clamp or screw in element ?
My screw in element had a silicone gasket which I nearly shredded on the first go trying to over tighten it . Silicone gaskets seal very well with minimal torquing .

If it is a screw in element , I think you need to fix the reason why you need to keep removing it as all that twisting and untwisting of the wires will lead to problems.

You can see how short my probe wire is. I would really like to extend it and maybe make it detachable from the PID.

Arrrrg ... a dredded PID controller .

Flog it off to some other fool that thinks they need one and get yourself a POWER controller . Thats what you need for a Pot still . PID controllers are useless .

And when you are making a Power controller , put a plug socket on it so you can unplug it rather than having to unscrew the element .

And there is no thermometer to worry about either :D
