Hi All
I have been using my 2" modular CCVM in both pot and reflux modes successfully to knock out some fairly reasonable gins using maceration, I am now looking at upgrading to vapour infusion of botanicals with a DIY Carter Head design. In one design there is a heads collection plate/off take directly under the dephlegmator supposedly to collect any heads while the column is in equilibrium, this I understand is to stop any smearing the botanical area of the head. Does anyone know if these work and are there any differences in designs.
Appreciate any comments

Pics?
Imo, best to do ALL rectification first.
Then there won't be any need for cuts on the finishing run.

i'm still a relative newbie but like lwtcs says, if you only use your best neutral, there isn't anything to smear.
maceration and reflux?
are you talking about refluxing low wines through a gin basket, where the heads are let through without the botanicals, put the still into reflux, insert the botanicals and carry on?
are we talking about a proper carter head or a gin basket?

StillBill53 - I've seen that design from DrGradus. That insert is a simple LM boka plate setup. Draw off fores and heads as liquid, and then switch to CM to let the hearts vapor through to the botanicals. It seems like a good design.

Hi All
Thanks for the reply. Capturing the heads in a trap before releasing vapour to the botanicals seemed like a good idea to me, just wasn't sure of the design, I'll do a bit more research on the Boka.
Cheers Guys
