In bigger ones you would need a cleaning system and even with that the stuck water can mold and stink after a while, don't ask me why I know.
Great sucess today I worked all morning (regular job) then got home and started with what I have, water checked the shotgun dephlag 1 small leak that was easy fix,my top is concave while bottom has the tubes extended about 1?8 inch. Next I spent some time working on a layout for my 2" shotgun vapor condensor. Was able to save the 2"tube from my last atempt and made a new shotgun condesor which water tested and NOOOOOO leaks. So I proceded to finish up and plumb to the "arm" Now I'm on hold until I get some 4" couplers and reducer.
I'm very proud of you RC, you are doing a great job.
You will love your still, it's the most advanced in this dimension.

if im understanding right, your wanting to tapp the copper to us a SS screw in it? copper is pretty soft, and after a few uses, i would be afraid that it might strip out.... .

My friend was trying to fix a copper pipe into a copper cylinder (don't know what he used, it's outside my expertise but it was a hand-held gas torch and like a welding rod, likely the same as yours).
He had the same trouble, the heat was being taken away from the work area because of the size of the cylinder.
I said to him later that we could have got out the electric fan heater and played the heat near the work area; would probably have more than offset the heat loss?
Anyway it might be worth a try!
for the 4" you may need to use oxy accetylene, or a bigger map torch. Hey my pex supply order just shipped to day also.. I bet you ordered some 4x2 couplings and they were back ordered.

The welding shop said the hard solder would have a hard time sticking with the silversolder, The flux does say for copper, I think it is a boric acid paste to keep the copper from oxidizing.
I use a borax based flux with the 56% silver hard solder for structural joints in copper. You have to wait for the borax to actually melt by which time the copper will be glowing red. Flows perfectly and makes a great job but it takes some heating. I use MAP gas and with big bits of 2" have to preheat the entire workpeice somehow.
