I'm a bit too new to be able to look at a still and say "That's a CM (or LM, or VM) still".
What is this still please?
http://ferromit.com/50Lstill.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
I'm looking at buying one (maybe) as it's not too far for me to go, and I don't really want to build my own one just yet.
There is also an 'ALEX 30' that I am interested in. I guess it's the same type of still as the 50L?
Any thoughts about the guys designs, methods, etc?
Thanks.
Regards to all.

Re: Wee bit of confusion about a still
I don't see how it provides the forced reflux. It's probably a grossly overcomplicated LM rig. You can and should do better. Getting plans for a Boka or CCVM from this site would be a far better and cheaper choice.

Looks to me like a glorified pot still.
I agree with bearriver, a lot better designs on here. Look at a boka or Dad300s CCVM

Re: Wee bit of confusion about a still
Hi Grey Kiwi.
I used to own another still by Ferromit. http://ferromit.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
I was extremly happy with it and its removable packing sleeve allowed for it to function as a potstill as well as a reflux still.
They are excellent units and almost indestructible.
It would produce a wonderful Vodka.
Shipping from Aussie a few years ago cost $150 AUD.
I would have keep it for a dedicated gin and vodka maker but i had bought a bubble plate still and needed to de clutter the garage.

Hey greykiwi, a square boiler is no consequence. It's what the columns above are doing.
t's what you do with what the boiler does .

cornflakes...stripped and refluxed

Looks like a LM? with a concentric condenser.
If that's the case, the take off valve is too big and located in such a way to cause smearing.
Rad's design is a hell of a lot better and you don't have to pay for the plans.

Re: Wee bit of confusion about a still
It's a CM still with a deflagamater and a product condenser.
I would be concerned with the plastic tubing in the vapor path and the product outlet. You definitely do not want plastic touching your product! I looked at their website and they show a variation of it with stainless between the deflagamater and the PC and a stainless takeoff with a valve out of the PC. If you insist on buying this still at least get the one with all stainless and lose the valve on the outlet of the PC.
Personally if I were you I would take my time and really learn about all the different types of stills and there strengths and weaknesses. Then I would build my own, (there is tons of easy build info on this forum) it will give you more of an understanding of your still and the satisfaction that it's yours.

That valve in the center looks like the control for water to the deflagamater

Re: Wee bit of confusion about a still
.....The "take off valve" referred to above is not a take off valve at all its a asembly screw for the stainless steel product tube.
Some of Alexs earlier stills had plastic in contact with the product but after this forum and other rained sh* down on his design he took note and added the all stainless product tube -all that screw does allow for easy assembly without tools.
The actual takeoff valve is the blue handled valve on the main column...
Edit.. unless you have a trade accuont you could not buy the parts at retail prices in NZ to build this still for as cheap as Alex sells the complete still.
