Copper/stainless modules
There have been a few threads on the site about welding copper to stainless. A fellow member "Bentstick" sent me some four inch copper a while back and have been waiting for the time to work on some modules. Because I am cheap, I am using stainless ferrels, and have decided to tig them together. I have messed with welding the two together a little in the past but on just some scrap.
I am happy to say they welded quite nicely, I used 1/16 308 wire. So if you have a tig machine, don't be afraid to give it a go.

Very nice...
Blending Machine... I like that...I've used a Blending Machine on most anything I weld.

That looks great.
Did you get equally good penetration on both materials?

Thanks fellas, ya got me Pfshine, had to give it a go...
Re: Copper/stainless modules
OK I need more details if you can. Gas, electrode type and size, amperage, filler just the details man. I was planning to do the same but never thought the would blend well together. My plan has since been to use silicon bronze rod and just stick them together. I thought the silver-gold-copper look would be nice. Can I/we get a better shot of the weld area? intrigued on how the silver copper meld together.

Concentrated the heat on the copper and let the puddle consume the stainless, took at bit to get the hang of it but am amazed how well they flow together.Windy City wrote:That looks great.

Argon, 3/32" tungston, straight polarity, 1/16 308 wire. Amperage was set on 130, full pedal to start but reduced as the part warmed up. Give it a goPaperman wrote:OK I need more details if you can. I don't think the silicon bronze would like the stainless but you could try..

Re: Copper/stainless modules
looks great SD yeah +1 on heating the copper and letting that heat the SS, read that and found it worked a treat for soft solder

Thanks Empty, Crow and Wannab. Bushman, you are welcome to stop by the shop anytime, I can't be responsible for showing you my bad habits though..
Got it put together yesterday and did some cleaning runs, plates loaded nicely and looks to be a good runner.
